Oren Ambarchi's Gear
The Moog Moogerfooger MF-102 Ring Modulator rebuilds your sound into two separate tones and then uses an internal carrier oscillator to spread those tones apart in the frequency spectrum. The higher the carrier frequency, the more the new tones are separated. The MF-102 serves up an astounding range of effects; from slow, velvet-smooth tremolo, to chains jangling in a Chinese gong, to classic "outer space" sounds. The LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator) imparts trills, vibratos, siren effects. You want unlimited new sounds? Well the MOOG MF-102 will do the job for you as it does with Ambarchi.
The Ring Stinger is a ring modulator/fuzz octave doubler/repeater/dirt box/optical synth all rolled into one. It is the only available ring mod using the classic transformer matrix modulator (and not the ubiquitous modulator chip) which gives it the distinctive vintage ring mod sound and germanium distortion. The Ring Stinger is a very rare and unique pedal which gives Ambarchi his edge in his music both live and in the studio.
Oren Ambarchi utilizes the Electro-Harmonix 16 Second Digital Delay Reissue to craft unique glitch sounds, incorporating reverse pitch-shifted effects. A user-uploaded photo on BlogSpot showcases Ambarchi with this delay pedal, highlighting its role in his experimental soundscapes.
Oren Ambarchi has upgraded from the Electro-Harmonix Superego to the Superego+ pedal, as seen in the Gravetemple Guitar Setup on Imgur. The Superego+ offers four freeze modes for infinite sustain and features effects like tremolo, rotary, and detune, which complement Ambarchi's musical style. Additionally, the pedal’s dry knob allows him to maintain an unaffected effects chain alongside the frozen signal, adding depth and texture to his sound.
Oren Ambarchi is known for his innovative approach to music, often transforming the guitar's traditional sound. In live performances, he frequently uses a Gibson True Historic 1959 Les Paul alongside oscillators, as seen in a user-uploaded photo on Issueprojectroom.
Oren Ambarchi uses the ZVex Mastotron Fuzz Pedal, as seen in a user-uploaded photo on BlogSpot. Known for its silicon-based design, the Mastotron offers precise tone sculpting with controls for pulse width, tone, and volume, making it a favored choice for adding a dynamic fuzz accent to his pedal chain.
In the Vimeo video "Big Bent Ears, Chapter 8: Oren Ambarchi, Live at Pioneer Works" by Ivan Weiss, Oren Ambarchi utilizes the Electro-Harmonix Superego Synth Engine. This pedal is known for its sample-and-hold capabilities, providing infinite sustain and a latch mode for layering sounds, which complements Ambarchi's heavy, textured soundscapes.
