Howe states in this article in Premier Guitar: "And, of course, I play a Martin in my solo spot, usually my own model called an MC-38 Steve Howe. Back in the ‘80s I use to play a 00-18 Steve Howe model. That was the first one. I converted to a MC guitar, which is a slimmer guitar with a cutaway. Martin kindly said, “Why don’t we do a Steve Howe model of that?” So that became the MC-38 Steve Howe Limited Edition model. "

Used for some of the Homebrew demos, as transcribed from a now edited June 27, 2017 Facebook post by Digitana in this June 30, 2017 Ask.Audio article.

We are pleased to announce that Digitana Electronics has acquired an important piece of E.M.S. history...the E.M.S. Synthi KB1 keyboard. Only one prototype was ever made, for the band YES in 1971.

The synth never went into production. It has remained essentially unused for 46 years though Steve Howe (YES guitarist) did use it on a track in the first of his 'homebrew' demo recordings, some of which featured on the bands albums. We plan to release more photos and audio demos of this keyboard in the future so that E.M.S. fans everywhere can finally hear and find out more about this beautiful and historic instrument.

In an interview with Tom Rice for the Gear4music Blog titled "Yes 'Close to the Edge' 50th Anniversary - Steve Howe EXCLUSIVE Interview," guitarist Steve Howe explains his use of the Fender Dual Showman: "I’d already got a Dual Showman. I don’t know that I had two of them. But what I did have was some sort of Super Twin that had four speakers in it – and it was a big thing. Usually, the front pickup would go in that Double Twin and the Dual Showman would take the back pickup. So that’s how we recorded it. Pretty much, (Tales From) Topographic Oceans was the same thing. Somewhere in the late ‘70s, we started using round stages and the Dual Showmans were just too big a cabinet. So I switched to Twins, which the front-of-house engineer just loved because he said the 12’’s were much better for projection than the 15’’s in the Dual Showmans. So I went to Twins."
