The Edge's Amplifiers
In this photo,The Edge can be seen using a Roland JC120 live.
In this interview, The Edge's guitar tech, Dallas Schoo talks about the amp/equipment set up for U2's 360 Tour:
"Well, of course we have the main AC30 from '64. Can't do a show without that."
Edge was telling an interviewer about his guitar rig and going through all of his amplifiers. At 2:20 he mentions and points out the Fender Deluxe.
The Edge can be seen using the hw AC30 in many videos...!!!
Edge used a Fender Blues Junior for his Shimmer signal path during the "Vertigo" Tour.
The Edge discussed this amp in an interview for Guitar World in 1987.
"And I've also acquired an old Fender Pro Reverb combo. It's real delicate. What I've been finding is that the old Fenders have this beautifully mellow distortion to them, the tubes have been worked just so, they're nice and clear."
Edge bought this Randall-RG80-112 Amps during the late 80's from Def Leppards Joe Elliot. They were first used during the 1989/1990 Lovetown Tour for some heavy rock sounds like "God Part II". Also used for the recording for Achtung Baby and ZOOROPA and used live up to 1998 for ZOO TV and POPMART Tour. Used live for "Last Night On Earth" and "Zoo Station". The heavy intro sound you can hear on the record that is this Amp.
The Edge's guitar tech, Dallas Schoo, discussed this rare amp in this Music Radar article.
"Take me through the amp setup you have here.
Well, of course we have the main AC30 from '64. Can't do a show without that. Then we have a '58 Fender Deluxe with a Vox speaker and a '57 Deluxe with a Jensen speaker. From there we go to a mid-'50s Fender Harvard - a very rare amp, by the way, and it sounds fantastic - and I put a Vox speaker in that. Plus, we have some early '70s Vox amps as backups."
In this mini documentary, Edge talks about the 50s Deluxe model that his signature amplifier is based on.
In this clip of U2's first performance on Ireland's Late Late Show from 1980, we see Edge playing through what appears to be a 2103 JMP MK2 amp. I suspect it is this model because at the 32 second mark, we can see a) the black, somewhat transparent grill cloth, and b) the two handles on the top.
In this video that shows longtime U2 guitar tech Dallas Schoo inspecting Edge's Bob Bradshaw-designed rig prior to 1997's PopMart Tour, a GSP-2101 rack unit is visible at the 13-minute 11-second mark.
In a January 2001 article from Guitar Player, The Edge mentions using an "old Fender Bassman" for many of the clean tones on the album All That You Can't Leave Behind: "Well, I'm a fairly well established AC30 man, but lately, for a bit of variety, I've been moving away from the Vox. I used a 70s Hiwatt combo for a lot of the distortion tones, and for many of the clean tones, I used an old Fender Bassman."
