The 1956 Fender Tweed Harvard Amp is a rare gem with a legendary tone, adored for its organic touch sensitivity and classic compression, as exemplified by Steve Cropper's recordings. Its 10-watt output, dual 6V6 tubes, and Jensen P10R speaker provide a sweet yet substantial sound, making it suitable for home and recording use, and even gigging when mic'd through a PA. Though lacking the tremolo of its contemporaries, the Harvard offers a unique, rich tone that stands apart from other Fender models of its era. A modern speaker swap can enhance its punch and headroom, but its vintage charm remains irresistible to collectors and players alike.

The Edge's guitar tech, Dallas Schoo, discussed this rare amp in this Music Radar article.

"Take me through the amp setup you have here.

Well, of course we have the main AC30 from '64. Can't do a show without that. Then we have a '58 Fender Deluxe with a Vox speaker and a '57 Deluxe with a Jensen speaker. From there we go to a mid-'50s Fender Harvard - a very rare amp, by the way, and it sounds fantastic - and I put a Vox speaker in that. Plus, we have some early '70s Vox amps as backups."

Richards’ stock guitar amp setup in the studio is [...] combined with a tweed Fender Harvard modified with a 6L6 output stage tube and a 12” speaker, nicknamed “One Love.” The modification makes the Harvard a single-ended or Class A amp.

“The Harvard adds a little bottom end and clarity,” - Pierre de Beauport (Keith's tech)

In their October 2008 issue, Steve Cropper told Vintage Guitar Magazine that "Some of the earlier stuff, if you go back to “Green Onions,” I used a little Fender Harvard amp."

The Fender Harvard changed very little between '51 and the end of the tweed era other than a switch from octal preamp tubes to modern small-bottled eqivalents.
