"It's a 1965 Guild M20. One of the best guitars I ever played. I got to know this guitar because of my admiration for Nick Drake (who had also played a M20). Since then I always prefered guitars with smaller bodies. These guitars use to have beautiful mids and are not that bassy, which fit my smooth singing pretty well. After all of these years she [the M-20] became a good friend of mine."

About his LH-600, he says, “It sincerely has that tight mid-range, woody quality that the first 30's archtop I ever played had. THIS THING FEELS AMAZING TO PLAY. Honestly, though, the ONLY thing that really matters to me at the end of the day is if the instrument has songs inside of it. And I sincerely believe this thing does.”

From a 2007 interview, William talked about using inexpensive gear on his albums from that time. "I used an AKG Perception 200 microphone for all of “Ghosts.” Ran it through a Lexicon Omega unit, which came with a free light version of the Cubase software. I recorded everything on an HP PC, which was definitely not meant to hold audio files!"
