Used for Point Blank on The 2016 River Tour
Used for World’s Apart & Countin’ On a Miracle during the Rising Tour, and for performances of Point Blank through 2014. According to Steven, “it gives me a little more sustain without sounding too thick or distorted. It almost sounds like an acoustic-electric guitar.” Steve also toured with a Firebird in the 70’s as a backup for his two Strats, and this is possibly that same guitar.

MUSICIAN eventually did track down Doug Sutphin, doing laps at Malibu Grand Prix. At a pit stop, Sutphin informed us that Van Zandt has two Stratocasters, a '57 and a '67, a Gibson Firebird (a spare which he almost never plays onstage), and two hollow-body 12-string Ovation guitars, with pickups. One of the Ovations and one of the Strats is capo'd. Van Zandt has a Mesa Boogie amp with Electro-Voice speakers. two Roland Jazz Choirs (120) amps, and a 10O-watt Hi Watt brain and cabinet, plus an MXR distortion unit. And yes, he does play it all at 10.
Steven Van Zandt used the Ovation 1615 Pacemaker 12 String guitar during Bruce Springsteen's 1980-81 tour, specifically for performances of "The River" and "Wreck on the Highway," as noted in an interview on Frankenschulz.
Used on "Lonesome Day" during a performance on The Tonight Show with David Letterman in 2002.
Steven Van Zandt is associated with the Takamine EF341SC guitar, as detailed on the Tumblr page "Gear'n'things from Asbury Park," which highlights his gear collection.
Used since the Reunion Tour on Atlantic City, Youngstown, The Ghost of Tom Joad, and Land of Hopes and Dreams.
Not sure if it’s his but a Fender amp is behind him on stage.
In the Tumblr post "Gear'n'things from Asbury Park — Steve Van Zandt’s Gear," it's noted that Steven Van Zandt has mentioned using the Maestro Fuzz-Tone in interviews. While he hasn't incorporated it into any Bruce Springsteen setups, the Fuzz-Tone, originally manufactured in the 1960s, may have been used by Van Zandt in the 1970s or he might employ a modern pedal that replicates its iconic sound.
