ATC (Acoustic Transducer Company) is a British loudspeaker manufacturer founded in 1974 by Australian-born engineer Billy Woodman, based in Aston Down, Stroud, Gloucestershire. The company began building custom drive units for the professional sound industry and quickly drew attention with the PA75-314 driver, followed in 1976 by the SM75-150S soft-dome midrange — a wide-bandwidth unit that became a reference point in studio monitoring. ATC designs and manufactures its drive units, crossovers, and amplifiers in-house.
The company is known for active studio monitors used widely in recording, mixing, mastering, and broadcast facilities, with models including the SCM25A Pro Mk2 and SCM45A Pro in the professional range, alongside larger soffit-mounted main monitors. ATC also produces a parallel line of consumer hi-fi loudspeakers and electronics, having expanded in 1996 into standalone pre-amplifiers and power amplifiers, and developing its Super Linear (SL) motor technology to reduce distortion.
ATC has been associated with the BBC, Abbey Road, and artists such as Pink Floyd and Coldplay among its professional users. The company is now led by Will Woodman, son of founder Billy Woodman.
ATC Loudspeakers has 31 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Active & Passive Monitors, Studio Monitor Amplifiers, and Studio Subwoofers. Their gear is featured by 71 artists, with the strongest followings in Electronic, Pop, and Rock. Notable users include Deadmau5, Anyma, and Ed Cherney.
