UFC 200

I don't watch UFC... well... any sport really usually, however, I will be watching this one because Brock Lesnar is returning. The match looks to be a close one too. The dude he's fighting is Mark Hunt "The Super Samoan". Hunt is a phenomenal striker, but Brock Lesnar became heavyweight champion almost instantly and fought with diverticulitis. Now he's healthy. I get so pumped watching these two guys' passed matches.

I'm guessing right now. If the fight stays on their feet, Mark Hunt will win. If it goes to the ground, Lesnar is going to treat Hunt like a sock in a dog's mouth.

Help me plan my pedal board

I ended up deciding on not getting that whammy. I think the ricochet will work with it enough. I don't play Tool a whole lot anymore anyway. I won't buy this stuff until September about, when I get my student loans in.

Identifying the gear

I liked a Mumford and Sons song for a bit.

Alternate Tunings

Most of my instruments are in Standard E... the way God intended >:(

I tune down to D for very few songs/bands. I have one 4 string bass tuned to CGCF from when I went into a phase with System of a Down. The same bass was tuned to BEAD for a long time for Cannibal Corpse stuff.

I personally hate alternate tunings. I have a friend that always has all his gear downtuned to weird stuff and it makes playing with him irritating.

"What tuning are you in?"

"Drop C# with an F"

"I hate you".

I find having my basses tuned to BEADG allows me to play most anything. Perhaps a 7 string guitar is the answer to all this tuning stuff.

Volume Pedals

Yeah. I love this bass so much though, I don't want to tinker with it. I'm afraid to change the strings just in case whatever brand these are, are the secret to it's sound :)

I plan to have a duplicate, V2 of it made. When I get that done, I'd like to have have the volumes up front and in order

J, M, J

the concentric stay where it is, and have the Push/Pull Active/Passive switch be in the very back and be a master volume if I can. As of right now, the push/pull does only that from what I can tell. No changes to tones or volumes when turning. Just push and pull.

Volume Pedals

I can't always do what "normal" bassists do because I use unusual instruments. The bass I use currently for live playing has 2 jazz pickups and 1 Musicman style humbucker. Each has a master volume, but they are spread apart. This is not easy to turn all 3 down at once. The pedal is must.

Help me plan my pedal board

I know nothing of electricity/wiring. It doesn't stick with me when I try and it all goes over my head. People say to associated it all with water flowing in a river, but it still doesn't stick. I even made myself a cheat sheet and saved it in an e-mail for just gear with 4ohms and 8ohms. I wish I could learn it and have it stay with me though. I would love to be able to work on my own pedals and such. I have 3 pedals that I can't use because they need work done on their innards as well as a Fender Rumble 350 head that was in a car crash. I can't even solder. I fried my Spector Tone Pump JR when trying to just take it off. I suck.

Loudest rig I ever owned was a mismatched set though.

8ohm Crate GX-65 guitar 12' Combo

4ohm Crate 212 bass Cabinet

It shook the earth at just volume 3. I was in a recording studio in Austin and people in other sound reduction rooms could hear me in mine. I still have the 212 but it now has a loose cone or something vibrating around in it.

Anyone bought any new cds or downloaded anything or gowever you get your music?

Last actual record I bought was a Christmas album from the 60's with a bunch of celebrities singing on it. I did have a decent collection of metal on vynyl for a while though. I had a brand new print of Tomb of the Mutilated. They make a lot of new metal music on records still.

Last downloaded albums were

BABYMETAL - Resistance

Weird Al - Manditory Fun

Last CD's bought

Dream Theater - Chaos in Motion

ELO - Greatest Hits

Guardians of the Galaxy OST

Si Jimmy, what is my board missing you think? Something maybe for the active into low quality board issue?

Help me plan my pedal board

At first, I would have only bought a Digitech Bass Whammy JUST so I can do some Tool songs occasionally. I never liked it's abilities and tones. The Ricochet however sounds amazing in the demos so far. I think the Ricochet has less options than the bass whammy but it it didnt, I would likely ditch the bass whammy. I'm usually a set it and forget it player, which is why I went with rack gear for so long. It wasn't until I got a taste for playing live that I realized I could use on-the-fly changing options.

Help me plan my pedal board

It'll be fun to see what they do. My first test of accuracy is to down tune the Ricochet an octave, and use the Whammy an octave up. See if it sounds the way it does without the pedals. Then it's off to the races with funky whammy teamings. I wonder how high I can make a bass sound with those :)

Help me plan my pedal board

what do you think of the fly rig so far?

The main video they have of it from Tech21 makes it sound awesome. Most of the gear for this pedal-board hasn't been bought yet. I'm just planning it all out so I can buy it all at once and set it all up in a day.

I love how tiny it looks and according to TalkBass, the SansAmp VT is the circuitry they are putting inside, which has an Ampeg sort of tone.

As for your setup, do you need the pitch shift, as you have a whammy and a octave on your multi effect board?

Well, I mainly want the ricochet for tuning purposes. A friend of mine always plays goofy tunings and I hate tuning the guitars to match. This would let me just hit a switch and be in his tuning, and vise versa. I do want to experiment with have the 2 pitch shifters though too. The octaver on the fly rig is just a bonus for me. I mainly want it for the SansAmp + Chorus + Boost + Compression.

Features and number of jacks.

HS = Expert Series (tons of jacks, extra features, higher total power allowance.)

PS = Solid Series (more affordable, smaller, less bells and whistles)

Help me plan my pedal board

I learned all too late, it's better to save up and buy the expensive thing you know you want and will like VS paying probably more for a handful of pedals that don't do it for you. That ISP Theta I pretty much bought just to have a good noise gate and maybe some extra EQ. It was too much though. At one time, I had my Bass EQ already, plus the Theta plugged in, plus a Sansamp RBI, plus a Sansamp RPM. Too much EQ choices. It take's forever to find exactly what you want, then you switch instruments and it's all wrong again. I don't listen to Djent music, but I would like to have the ability to play that weird tone their bassists have.

For the cash of that Voodoo, you can get the smaller Yankee power supply. Those sound like the best supplies on earth right now.

Help me plan my pedal board

I have an ISP Theta pedal that I've used for recording distortion guitar part I could throw on if I wanted, but I started out playing with heavy distortion on the bass a lot and grew out of it. I try to go more towards bending and adding to the natural sound of a bass.

I like your board. Only thing things that come to mind would be a chorus and maybe a delay. A lot of the gear you have I haven't used myself before, like the tube screamer, so I can offer little input on those.

What power supply are you using?

Item name accuracy... Visual Sound is now Truetone?

I agree, especially if they re-label the gear. When Fender bought SWR, they toyed with the innards and made a bad product.

I think what might be nice though is some sort of linkage between brands.

Volume Pedals

I looked into a variety of pedals this week. Seems like the best volume pedal out right now is the Mission Engineering Inc VM-Pro. Has all the high end technical specs any audiophile would want. For me however, have no volume potentiometer on the outside is a problem. You have to unscrew the bottom plate and adjust 1 screw inside to set the minimum volume. I'm going with the Boss FV-500H. http://en.muzicastore.ro/public/photos/xlarge/2013/01/boss-fv-500l.jpg

Something I find upsetting is that the only volume feature any of the pedals on the market now have is MINIMUM volume adjust. I'm really needing Maximum adjust.

Good. Then we're all on the same page now. No more gear demos :P

We have destroyed the purpose of this thread me thinks heh

Filter Preamps

Anyone ever used them? I'm thinking of grabbing one from ACG and seeing how Wal/Alembic-y I can make a cheaper bass's tone. I don't think I've ever even held a bass that had one.

Complaints, Concerns, Errors, Suggestions, and Ideas!

The core point currently is whether or not gear reviews and demos belong on an artist's page. The point you tried to make was that if it's a celebrity reviewing the item it does and if it's a corporation or business, it doesn't. I think there's probably a 50/50 split on the opinion of gear demos being on an EquipBoard. I don't feel the majority of users would split the difference between whether it's a celebrity or not because we have guidelines for who can have an artist's board. If they have one, they should be considered at least somewhat of a celebrity. So, any items that are temporarily used, the way they are in demos and reviews, are in the same camp regardless. It's more of a yay or nay situation.

Complaints, Concerns, Errors, Suggestions, and Ideas!

If I had a page dedicated to me and I found out a product I didn't even like was associated with me because there was photo evidence of me just holding it once, be it to try it out or as a joke, I would be irritated by it. As an example, I detest Gibson products. I have certainly picked them up and tried them out before. If someone associated me with Gibson instruments because of this, I would be irritated and assume the association was a poor attempt at a joke. Generally, when a musician in conversation mentions what gear they use, they don't list items they don't normally use, every item they've ever owned, or closer to a gear reviewer's case, gear they tried once.

We should have a series like "Wikipedia: Fact or Fiction" where we sit down with artists featured on the site and ask them if the gear on their page belongs :) . I'd love to see the confusion cross the face of someone like James Hetfield when we ask them, "So you play the recorder. We have a photo of you in 5th grade playing one. Would you consider it a part of your professional gear?"

Complaints, Concerns, Errors, Suggestions, and Ideas!

I really care about what pros used to make music in their profession.... so if a drummer tried their hand at guitar on a record or picked up a ukulele at a concert during an encore it counts

if a guy puttered around with a new instrument for a few weeks at home and posted a picture of it to his facebook I feel sketchy about it

my opinion on this is similar to my opinion on the instruments used as props in choreographed music videos... I only care about gear I am HEARING, not just seeing, because stuff that is only played at home or used as a prop wil not help people get 'that' sound they are looking for.... and that's the spirit of EB, its a get that sound kinda thing

Yeah, that's why I cringe when I see the Anderton's pages here with a billion guitars and such. Just because they held one in a 10 minute video doesn't make viable to say it's THEIR gear. #productdemo :)

Well I hoped for some moderation here. :)

It's a lingering condition from when the site allowed gear from any hobby and sport. Now we are more musical in nature. It has been discussed a few times before on whether we will take it down or not. For now, it is staying up. There are bigger fish to fry ;)

Sound like Alex Turner

I had a rule that if someone was hanging out at my house and fell asleep, I would wake them up by putting on a horrible video, with the volume all the way up, on my laptop, right in front of their face. My favorite to use was "Ukrainian Girl Got Talent". The sights and sounds are so suprising, I made one guy puke and become angry.

I can't believe that site exists. It almost seems like a fetish site.

I got fired once because I told a coworker about a horrible website. They looked it up on a company computer and then blamed ME when they got caught, saying I used the computer to look at it. Do to children visiting the site, I will edit the title.

I've been shitting fire and cramping at the belly last day or so. Every time I cook something in a crockpot, I get sick. I don't understand why. I don't always cook beans in it, but this time I did and I just read that there is a toxin in beans that is supposed to be boiled out before crocking. Yesterday I threw a brisket in with some jalapenos, pintos, red onions, and vegetable stock. I've noticed nearly all the food I cook in it tastes the same too.

According to that, the more expensive volume pedals would cause my tone to suck, but using the pedals at half price would be ideal. Interesting.

The lights would sure help. Hard to find them about now it seems. I wonder how hard it would be to rig an LED strip to say, a Morley pedal to get the same effect.
