I'm looking to bleed in and out of sound smoothly. While playing, I maybe want to add a last note of a chorus right before we go into a quiet, pre-chorus section of the song. I want to be able to hit the note and smoothly, steadily drop out of the mix rather than abruptly slam on the breaks and go from 100% to 0.
As a bonus, I'd like to be able to select the output level on it. My last gig, the sound guy said I was too loud and he had the soundboard all the way down for me. I had to use my volume pedal at 80% and leave it so that I didn't overshoot the volume later. I would rather be able to select all the way forward as 80% to match his needs, but also select the pedal all the way back as 0% so I can do my smooth flow outs, allowing me to stomp it all the way and not worry about nailing a blind sweet spot.
My main bass has 3 volume knobs on it. Too much of a pain :)

I'm needing a volume pedal for mah basses. Tried using a BP200 for the job, but it's not smooth and I am unable to set the parameters of the pedal (If I want to see it so that all the way forward is 80% volume and all the way back is 50% volume for example).
I was noticing Earnie Ball has the same pedal, but different numbers. 25k, 250k, and all that. Normally, I would just grab the most expensive one and assume it's all I'll ever need. I don't want to spend double on a pedal though if it isn't going to do anything special for me.
What's the skinny on all this?

I just got out of X-Men. So far my order goes as follows
Deadpool, X-Men, Civil War, Batman.
I'm not at all interested in Dr. Strangeglove and Gambit was given a heavy boot into 2017.

My favorite go-to bass right now is the Carvin kit build I bought off of TalkBass. Dude put in maybe 1500 into it and I bought it at 1250 shipped. I wish I could get a replica built from it. Everyone loves it's sound, I love the way it feels. Perfect string spacing for me.
The sound mixer at the church I've been playing for came up and kept complementing me on it. He said it's the first bass they'v had play there that isn't muddy sounding and they get some $4000 ibanezes, fenders, and such come through.
I wish I was famous so I could get an endorsement for a signature bass. The Carvin would be my exact prototype.

You probably beat me in quality. 4 of my basses I couldn't give away. 2 rogues, a first act, and an SX. 6 string guitars I don't think I'll ever buy any more. I've got my Ibanez, my Takamine, and a couple of acoustics. I'm set for life there.
I was offering to donate my lower end equipment to a church in Abilene. They were wanting to start playing more modern music and I have enough to give them a good starting point. They ended up not going anywhere with it. Had an acoustic player for a month and then he broke his wrist or something.

You know what... I may buy a filter preamp, put it a high end MM in the neck position, and make this thing sound like a Wal.
10yabout 10 years ago
I'm at 11 right now. I got done cleaning her out and stringing her up. The tone is just not for me. Maybe if I got a good preamp for it but, I don't feel like going through all that right now. I'm probably going to end up giving to the church I play for... maybe. I'm conflicted. I like the way it looks and the goofy bridge it has makes so much sense to me. Kind of looks like Ibanez's attempt at a Wal looking bass I think. The sound just doesn't compare though.

I just picked up a 2004 Ibanez RdGr 500. I bought it on instinct. I was driving to my landlord's and without thinking about it, turned and pulled into a pawn shop at 8am. It was the first instrument I saw and thinking at first that it was an old roadster, I asked to play it. I plugged it into a massive SWR redhead amp which was a mistake because EVERYTHING sounds better through an SWR. Bought it after 30 seconds for $250.
The strings were deader than any I had ever heard. I only have spare 5 sets around the house, so I went to GC where lo and behold, Di'Addario 4 sets were only 10 bucks. Tonight I plan on stringing it up, setting it up (the person before me had the string floating in the clouds), and seeing if I can make it sound good. I like the look of the bass. Maybe I just need to drop in a different preamp.

Your favorite music-related movies?
Motown and the muscle shoals sound are only related in that they were 'race music' in the parlance of the day... Stax is more related to the muscle shoals sound popularized by Jerry Wexler and to a lesser exent Ahmet Ertegun (the MAN who signed zep etc)
shakes head
Amazing. Muscle Shoals continues to bore me, even without the documentary playing :)

Your favorite music-related movies?
Anyone seen this yet? I've heard really good things.
It was boring to me. I got about 40 minutes in and switched it off. I don't even remember much. Something about Motown... yada yada.

I think it's weird that Carnegie gave 90% of his wealth away and Scrooge kept all his in a vault.

I often find out new information that blows me away and feel the need to share. Might as well be here.
Scrooge McDuck was based on Andrew Carnegy.

Acoustic would give you alot of diversity for sure.
The very worst acoustic bass IMO is the Dean EAB. Stay away from that giant. It sounds small, is very hard to play, and the body is too large to get around easily.
My suggestion would be to go try out a Oscar Schmidt OB100B Acoustic/Electric Bass Guitar. Oscar Schmidt is to Washburn as Squire is to Fender. It's very comfortable, has a thin body - guitar like, and has a great loud tone. It is the only acoustic bass I will ever own again... probably.

They suck. Weak tone both electronically and acoustically. They're really bad.

I've known a few people from Guyana. If you plan to pick a random watermelon make sure you're not on private property before you do it, those watermelon farmers are violently defensive of their produce.
and yeah, I know I have an outsized personality, but I don't think that's atypical of creative types from my generation... younger people have a whole different creative culture then what I grew up with
Only Guyana tips I know to give are as follows...

Strumming counter to another guitarist
oh lol. Well, you wont need to use any tricks then when playing. modern contemporary Christian music puts more emphasis on the vocals and lyrics than they do the playing of the instruments. I would bet that they are expecting you to just back him with gentle strums.
I would recommend writing your own song at some point though and playing it for the church if you want to get your artistic side out. You can impress people easily when they are used to less technical music.

Strumming counter to another guitarist
The guy on the right strums about half of the time.
Is this a paying gig or for pleasure?

Strumming counter to another guitarist
Well, you can "serve the song" and just play backing chords of what hes doing, giving him all the glory.
What I WOULD do is play a mixture of backing chords and melodies to his. These guys do a great job working 2 acoustics together. Check them out.
You would be playing the guy on the right's part. Think Bass guitar meats strummer.

Well, Deadmau5 broke our servers
It would be awesome to make him his own personal artist account and allow him to update his gear himself. We could remove all the stops so that what he posts on his board is taken immediately.
Maybe we can do an interview or gear run with him and post the video to the site sometime.

There is a saying here in Texas. "If you don't like the weather... just wait 10 minutes."
The weather here is at it's peak in the mid 60's and an overcast. You can smell all the different trees and flowers at that time. With the glare of the sun gone, you can see off into all directions for miles and miles. Here lately we've had some strong winters. Unfortunately in the part that I live in now, with the dry heat comes the outrageous wind. We get ha-boobs some years. I grew up in Alpine, TX and the weather there is a tad different. We have rocks and vegetation blocking most of the wind and back when I was a kid, we had a spring that flowed all the way through town.

Patton Oswalt's wife died a couple of days ago. He's known to have major depression. I'm really hoping he doesn't kill him. I think they have a 4yo daughter.

Its on the verge of being horrible here in Lubbock, TX . 87', warm wind gusts occasionally, bright and sunny.
My ideal weather is dark overcast, 65', no wind.

looking into it, it says most medical procedures they will accept and that it becomes a personal choice on others. They refuse blood transfusions and such though. He may have been pilled out.
Like Michael Jackson, we may hear the truth in a couple of months.
According to Kevin Smith, Prince has a mass of albums, music videos, and films that he never released. Maybe someone will buy the rights to them now and expose them all.

It was rumored that he OD'd a week ago. I dunno. I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that Jehova's Witnesses didn't allow medications to be taken. I know he was BIG on that ride.

A few days ago, a friend of mine dropped this death AND the death of Chyna on me. For all we know, they might have been the same person. They did look a lot alike.

The Hello-Thread: Please Allow Me To Introduce Myself 👋
I'm 30 years old. I'm a full-time student at South Plains College in Lubbock, TX. I attended Sul Ross State University about 10 years ago but did nothing important while there due to laziness and extensive drug use. I am not super sure what I want to be. I am certified as a digital forensics analyst and am currently working on a degree in cyber security. I don't love computers though. It is a decision based on needing a career that can be done without physical ability (paralysis) and likelihood for jobs in the future. I am not paralyzed, but I was in a major accident in February of 2014. I hit ice on a bridge and flipped my truck over the rial and down into the valley below. I was nearly uninjured but it made me realize how easily someone can lose their body.
I work full-time as the over-night manager of a supermarket here in town. I have impressed my professor this year with my ability to teach as well as my musical ability. He is encouraging me to go for an educational field of career and has hooked me up with School of Rock here in town as an instructor.
I play bass first and foremost. I can play a little acoustic, classical, and electric guitar. I have played Tuba, Baritone, and trombone. I taught myself how to play The Undertaker's march and Kane's theme on the piano/organ but that's the extent of the keys for me. I grew up singing in church and used to have a great voice, all be it a high one for my size. The last 5 years or so I have really lost control of my voice, so I don't use it anymore.
I am a Christian. Saying that these days is very broad though. The sect of Christianity that I agree with the most is Independent Baptist, though I do disagree with 1 or 2 doctrines they profess. I was agnostic for many years and even violent and offensive to religious folk. Many of my passed friends were what I call "Angry Atheists". These are people that not only have their own disbelief in a creator, which is acceptable socially, but also actively seek to fight, anger, and hurt people who have a faith that differs. The last 6 months I have been out of church. I defiantly feel a difference in my emotional and mental state. Church is like therapy for me and I decline as a person when I am out of it. I started drinking, dipping, cussing, and so on since my absence and all of these things I believe are against what my faith. There was a time when I was an active door knocker and even considered becoming a missionary. I am now looking into joining the Air Force if possible to meet that need of seeing the world.
I live with roommates. Currently with a guy from Guiana Africa, and another from Austin, TX.
Bands I've enjoyed throughout life are as follows.
Metallica, Pantera, GWAR, Weird Al, BabyMetal, Ace of Bass, Canibal Corpse, Tool, Megadeth, Dream Theater, Jackson 5, No Doubt, The Police, Eminem, Garth Brooks, In The Midst of Lions, Mastodon, Slayer, Lamb of God, Heaven and Hell, Iron Maiden, Rush, PowerGlove.

Had a retired police dog. It died of Parvo while at my Uncle's house.
Had a 17yo cat that was trained like a dog. It bit the hand that feeds. I planned to eat him. My mom took the cat and put in in the backyard of a family across town so I couldn't eat him.
Had fish as a kid. Worst pet ever.
I now have roommates.
