Duesenberg is a German guitar manufacturer founded in 1986 by luthier and designer Dieter Gölsdorf, headquartered in Hannover, Germany, and operated under Göldo Music GmbH. Gölsdorf began building guitars and parts in 1978 before launching the Duesenberg brand, which initially focused on futuristic heavy-metal guitar designs. By the early 1990s, the brand pivoted toward the Art Deco-inspired aesthetic it is known for today, culminating in the 1995 introduction of the Starplayer TV — a semi-hollow body guitar that became Duesenberg's flagship instrument and earned international recognition.
Duesenberg's lineup spans semi-hollow, chambered, and solid body electric guitars, with models including the Starplayer TV, Starplayer CBR, Caribou, Paloma, Fantom, Julia, Senior, and Double Cat 12-string. The company also produces bass guitars (the Triton and Kavalier), lap steel guitars, pickups, and effects pedals. Manufacturing takes place primarily in Croatia, with final setup and assembly completed in Germany. Duesenberg maintains a U.S. presence through a branch in Fullerton, California. The company offers an Artist Alliance series of signature instruments developed with professional players.
Duesenberg guitars have been adopted by a wide range of prominent musicians across genres, including Ron Wood, Bob Dylan, Mike Campbell, Joe Walsh, Billy Gibbons, Johnny Depp, John Mayer, Elvis Costello, Jason Isbell, Chris Cornell, Jackson Browne, Nancy Wilson, Keb' Mo', Steve Earle, Dave Stewart, and Carrie Underwood, among many others.
Duesenberg has 83 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitars, Solid Body Electric Guitars, and Electric Basses. Their gear is featured by 135 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Pop, and Folk, World, & Country. Notable users include Johnny Depp, Dave Baksh, and Carl Broemel. Most Duesenberg products sit firmly in the high-end, boutique range.
