A Must have
Great as a utility for making peaks behave, but even better creatively for just completely mashing whatever it's fed. Great for distortion with character rather than just a noise blitzkrieg, very easy to dial in a tailor-made custom bite. Perfect for more industrial styles of electronica like Gary Numan and NIN and depeche Modes current 2019 sound. I have other saturation plugs such as Izotope Trash and some Nomad Factory stuff, but Saturn feels much more robust, like its encased in Kevlar . A veritable snarling beast. Loving it !!
The only thing i'd like is the fullscreen capability found on the pro Q 3 and Pro MB, but that would be nitpicking. Can't fault the sound at all. Awesome comes as standard for any fabfilter plugin.

Saturation...
Saturation I can actually use. I've got 3 go to saturation plugs & this is by far the most versatile. Being able to do band specific distortion is what is missing on my other favorites. Thermonic Culture Vulture is great but it's a bit of a hammer.
This can be as subtle or as gnarly as you like. Makes it very handy.
That said it's not like hitting tape. Nothing is.
When I need tape saturation, I hit tape.
Dunno why "tape" plugins are so popular...
Go to a goodwill, get a tape deck of some kind- reel to reel, cassette & hit tape if that's what you want. Likely cheaper than the plugin your buying. Just requires a bit of thought.

dIsTorTiON
My absolute favorite distortion plugin since the simple Camel Crusher and Sausage Fattener. This is a plugin that distorts without making an ugly useless sound. I find it useful simply for warming up a sound as well, but I primarily use it for its unique distortions.
Version: FabFilter Saturn 1213
Great sound, simple interface.
Saturn is actually my backup distortion behind Trash 2 and Ableton's Saturator, but it has proven itself useful many different times.
The multi-band controls are the best I've ever used and can be such a relief to use an plugin with an interface that is this easy to navigate.
