A great gate is an open and shut case ( see wut I did there ?? )
I love Fabfilter plugins and bought most of them before deciding to get the gate, as comps, limiters, EQ etc....scored higher on my priority list. I knew at some point I'd have to get the Pro G as well, but I shopped around and bought other gates, or used gates in other things that weren't the main core point of that plugin......things like Shoeps omni-channel, Neutron etc.....but after trying the demo, I wish I had just got it first instead of all the other inferior gate plugins I bought that just weren't up to the task. The Pro-G represents ultimate control , flexibility, so you can shape the gate as precisely you need it to be. I wish it were a little bigger, like the rest of the Fabfilter plugins, but maybe a Pro-G 2 will come soon =)

Favorite gate :)
Gates have their place, especially when recording and getting rid of background audio and noise during recordings! I don't really use Fabfilter plugins in the face of Voxengo's magical mixing mojo, but I love using this gate :).

He recommends the use of FabFilter's Pro-G Gate/Expander Plugin, which can "help to make synths sound bigger using upward compression". He advocates grouping synths on a bus, and then applying the compression to the group (original source here).
