Origin Effects is a British boutique pedal manufacturer founded in 2012 by electronic engineer Simon Keats. The company was born from Keats' experience repairing a pair of Urei 1176 studio compressors — inspired by their sound, he set out to capture that studio-grade compression in stompbox form. The result was the Cali76, a pedal that faithfully translates the character of the iconic 1176 FET compressor circuit into a pedalboard-friendly format. The Cali76 line has since expanded to include the Cali76 FET, Cali76 Stacked, and Cali76 Bass models.
Beyond compression, Origin Effects produces the RevivalDRIVE series of amp-recreation overdrive pedals, which use analog circuitry to replicate the feel and response of classic tube amplifiers. Their lineup also includes the Halcyon overdrive series, the DELUXE61 and MAGMA57 amp tremolo and vibrato pedals, the Bassrig series for bass players, and the DCX Boost. Every pedal is designed, hand-built, and listen-tested at the company's factory in Buckingham, England.
Origin Effects pedals have found their way onto the pedalboards of artists including David Gilmour, Pete Townshend, Graham Coxon, Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro, and James Valentine of Maroon 5. The RevivalDRIVE Compact earned Guitarist Magazine's Gear of the Year award in the effects pedal category, and the Cali76 is widely regarded as one of the finest compressor pedals available.
