Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Origin Effects RevivalDRIVE Compact.

Features and functionality

  • The More/Presence knob on the RevivalDRIVE Compact is sensitive and significantly alters the drive's character by controlling negative feedback.

    Source
  • The blend knob is effective for use with dirty amps, especially at a 50/50 blend, enhancing the pedal's usability.

    Source
  • The RevivalDRIVE Compact includes DI capabilities that allow it to run directly into a PA or amp sim, acting as an "amp in a box."

    Source
  • The RevivalDRIVE Compact, when used directly into an IR loader, functions effectively as an analog amp sim, replicating the response of a real amp head.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Ideal for achieving 60s & 70s rock sounds, it excels in Vox, Marshall, Fender, Dumble, and Hiwatt tones but not in Orange or Mesa styles.

    Source
  • It's used as a reliable backup plan in live settings, providing a solution if there's an issue with the primary amp, such as a tube failure.

    Source
  • To achieve optimal sound using the RevivalDRIVE Compact as an amp sim, turn the blend knob fully clockwise towards the OD setting to avoid a muddy mix with the raw guitar signal.

    Source

User experience

  • Users find integrating the pedal into a rig easier than expected, often using it as a second amp channel with additional character.

    Source
  • Despite its versatility, one owner reports rarely using it as an overdrive during live performances, indicating a preference for other pedals.

    Source
  • Users have successfully used the RevivalDRIVE Compact with IR loaders, such as the Rockboard Mod 5, noting it performs better as an amp sim than a conventional overdrive pedal.

    Source

Comparisons

  • A user found the sound of the RevivalDRIVE Compact comparable to the Tumnus Deluxe, noting the latter's preference in gigs despite the former's versatility.

    Source
  • Compared to the Waza Blues Driver, the Deluxe61 from the same brand offers a fuller, more amplike sound.

    Source
  • The RevivalDRIVE Compact is contrasted with the Benson preamp, where the latter is noted to lack compression and top-end, making the RevivalDRIVE feel more amp-like in an IR setup.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • While the pedal offers unique features, one user questions its price, suggesting that other overdrive pedals might offer similar quality at a lower cost.

Critic Reviews

Origin Effects RevivalDRIVE Compact Review | GuitarPlayer

guitarplayer.com

The Origin Effects RevivalDRIVE Compact distills the essence of its predecessor into a more manageable size without sacrificing sonic quality. With its rich, versatile tones that range from smooth crunch to soaring leads, this pedal convincingly mimics the feel of a tube amp setup. However, its premium price may give some players pause, and the simplified controls might not satisfy those who prefer extensive customization. Still, for musicians seeking authentic amp-like saturation in a compact form, this pedal is a worthy investment.

positive

Origin Effects Revival Drive Compact

soundonsound.com

The Origin Effects RevivalDRIVE Compact delivers a rich, versatile overdrive experience that emulates classic valve amps with impressive detail. Its intuitive controls allow for nuanced tone shaping, making it adaptable for various styles, from bluesy sustains to classic rock tones. However, it does come at a premium price, which may deter budget-conscious musicians. While not a high-gain pedal, its touch responsiveness and low-end weight stand out, ensuring a satisfying playing feel. Overall, the RevivalDRIVE Compact is a refined choice for discerning players, but its cost may be a hurdle for some.

positive

Origin Effects RevivalDRIVE Compact review | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

The Origin Effects RevivalDRIVE Compact stands out with its smaller footprint and more accessible price, offering a delightful array of authentic vintage amp tones. It’s user-friendly with a simplified control set that facilitates quick dialing in of sounds, making it ideal for pedalboard setups. However, the trade-off comes in the form of fewer tonal parameters compared to its larger sibling, limiting subtlety for more nuanced players. Overall, it's a fantastic choice for those seeking quality overdrive without breaking the bank.

Will never leave my board.

The Revivaldrive Compact is by far the most touch sensitive and amp like overdrive pedal I have ever used. I suppose the only criticism would be that it could use more gain. Origin Effects have already introduced the hot rod version to give you that though.
