Founded by Geoffrey Teese in 1993 and based in Coquille, Oregon, Real McCoy Custom is a boutique manufacturer specializing exclusively in handbuilt wah-wah pedals. Teese earned the nickname "Wah Guru" through years of repairing and studying vintage Italian and English wah pedals from the 1960s onward, including meetings with original Thomas Organ engineers. That deep research into the electronic and tonal principles of classic wahs led him to develop the RMC3 in 1994 — the world's first fully tunable, self-contained wah pedal, featuring the proprietary Vari-Tune Circuit that allows players to adjust low, mid, Q, volume, and sweep range.
The Real McCoy Custom lineup covers a wide range of wah voices. The RMC4 Picture Wah recreates the original 1967 Clyde McCoy wah tone, while the Wizard Wah is voiced for high-output pickups and heavier styles. The RMC8 Guitar Eqwahlyzer and RMC9 Bass Eqwahlyzer bring wah functionality to equalization, and the Joe Walsh Signature Wah was developed in collaboration with the Eagles guitarist. Every pedal is built by hand in the USA, housed in a metal enclosure with true-bypass switching, AC/DC power capability, and a tension-adjustable treadle.
Real McCoy Custom wah pedals have found their way onto the pedalboards of a remarkably broad roster of professional musicians, including Trey Anastasio of Phish, Joe Satriani, Neal Schon of Journey, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, John Fogerty, Gary Clark Jr., Ben Harper, Page Hamilton of Helmet, George Lynch, Randy Bachman, Jennifer Batten, and Joe Walsh, among many others.
