Damon Albarn's Gear
The official Taylor Guitars website cites that Damon Albarn plays the Taylor GS Mini Acoustic Guitar (http://www.taylorguitars.com/artists/damon-albarn). It can be seen on the cover of Gorillaz's album "The Fall".
In this YouTube video at 11:20, you can see Damon Albarn using the Wurlitzer 106P in a Gorillaz Acoustic Live Concert
In this picture, Damon Albarn can be seen using the signature Fender Graham Coxon Telecaster.
Used for Albarn's vocals on Gorillaz's "Clint Eastwood", as mentioned by producer Tom Girling in the September 2001 Sound on Sound article "Recording 'Clint Eastwood'".
We used the Neumann TLM170 for Damon's vocal, and we hired some gear when we went to Jamaica, so I think he probably went through an 1176 as well, or perhaps a Distressor," explains Tom. "We used a Neve 1073, which is an EQ with a mic amp on as well, so the mic was plugged straight into that, and then after that I think it was the 1176 and straight into Logic."
On 'Clint Eastwood', a harmony part was also created from the lead vocal using a Boss Voice Transformer. "It's just a harmonised copy of Damon's main vocal," explains Tom. "For each chorus bit, there is a bit of that underneath the main chorus vocal."
Other vocal effects were also added at the mix: "We've got the rap, we've got reverse reverb on the rap as well, and some delay stuff that we did manually when we were comping the vocal and the melodica stuff," says Tom. "I think it's only the album version that you can hear all this stuff on, though. It's just a delay that's fed back on itself and EQ'd while it's coming back."
"We were just trying to get that tape effect from the digital delay," explains [producer] Jason [Cox].

In the video for 'Crazy Beat' by Blur, Damon can be seen playing a Fender Mustang.
A modified 527B was used for Albarn’s distorted vocals on the Escape to Plastic Beach Tour, as stated by Albarn’s longtime FOH engineer Matt Butcher in this July 15, 2019 article by Entec Sound and Light.
Although Butcher described his microphone selection as “very standard”, one departure from the norm was a Shure 527B CB-style mic with a modified push-to-talk switch that was used for distorted vocal sounds on songs such ‘Stylo’ and ‘Rhinestone Eyes’. “I’m a great believer in getting the right sound at source,” said Butcher.
At 26:05, Damon can be seen playing the synth along with his guitar.
Mentioned by recording engineer and frequent collaborator Stephen Sedgwick in this July 2017 Sound on Sound interview about the production of Gorillaz's Humanz.
“Damon already had been demoing things during the last months of 2015, using GarageBand,” recalls Sedgwick. “In the past he used a four-track cassette recorder, but once he had an iPad he switched to GarageBand, because he loves the speed and simplicity and how easy it is to pick sounds. It allows him to get his ideas down really quickly, and if something doesn’t work, he can immediately move on to something else. He’ll demo anything that gets the ball rolling: a guitar/vocal recording, chord patterns, synth parts, a loop, beats, and so on.
Used for Albarn's vocals on Gorillaz's "Charger", as mentioned by recording engineer Stephen Sedgwick in this July 2017 Sound on Sound interview about the production of Humanz.
“I recorded Damon’s rough vocals with a Neumann KMS105 condenser, which sounds pretty good and doesn’t pick up a lot of sound from the room, so it works great if there are other people around and he quickly wants to lay down some ideas. But when it came to recording his final vocal takes I used the Flea 47, which is a really great-sounding Neumann U47 clone. I usually recorded it via a Chandler LTD1 mic pre, and then either a Distressor or a Tube-Tech CL1B compressor."
The orange Wurlitzer 200 can be seen several times in the studio. It is also used as the template instrument for Gorillaz’ “Song Machine.”
