Critic Reviews

iZotope RX8

soundonsound.com

With iZotope RX 8, audio restoration reaches new heights, thanks to innovative modules like Guitar De-noise and Spectral Recovery. The updated interface and workflow enhancements make processing smoother than ever. However, the Wow & Flutter module may disappoint those seeking more versatility, as it lacks the complexity of pricier alternatives. Still, RX 8 remains a powerful, user-friendly tool for both newcomers and seasoned pros, justifying its upgrade cost with significant improvements across the board.

Review: iZotope RX 8 Audio Editor is Ideal for Home Recording in Less Than Perfect Environments | Acoustic Guitar

acousticguitar.com

iZotope RX 8 proves to be a game-changer for home recording enthusiasts, seamlessly tackling noise issues typically found in less-than-ideal environments. Its standout feature, the Guitar De-noise plug-in, simplifies the removal of unwanted sounds like squeaks and clicks, making it a must-have for guitarists. However, users should be cautious of potential latency introduced by some plug-ins, which can disrupt the recording process. While the standalone program offers deeper control and impressive visualizations, it requires a learning curve to master. Overall, RX 8 enhances recording quality significantly, but its effectiveness hinges on careful application to avoid over-processing.

iZotope RX 8 Advanced review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

iZotope RX 8 Advanced introduces impressive new modules and enhancements, making it a powerhouse for audio repair. The guitar pick and squeak removal features deliver outstanding results, while the Music Rebalance module showcases significant improvements. However, the expanded package can feel overwhelming, and certain tools, like the Amp De-noise, may inadvertently compromise guitar tone instead of enhancing it. Overall, while RX 8 shines in many areas, it has room for refinement in user experience and specific functionalities.

Review: iZotope RX 8 Advanced for Audio Repair - postPerspective

postperspective.com

iZotope RX 8 Advanced continues its legacy as an essential tool for audio repair, boasting features like Spectral Recovery that significantly enhance remote recordings. While it offers tangible improvements, especially for professionals, some features may not justify the upgrade for casual users. The Music Rebalance tool shines, yet can produce artifacts if not used carefully. Though not a monumental update, RX 8's enhancements make it a solid investment for those in post-production. However, for those on a budget, sticking with RX 7 a bit longer might be wise. Overall, RX 8 is a valuable addition to any audio professional's toolkit, but its worth varies depending on individual needs.

positive

Review: iZotope RX8 - Mixonline

mixonline.com

iZotope RX 8 is a powerhouse for audio repair, introducing robust new features like the Guitar De-Noise module and Spectral Recovery, which significantly enhance audio quality for both music and post-production. The improved Music Rebalance and Loudness Control tools streamline workflows, making it easier to achieve polished results. However, the reliance on lower-quality previews during Music Rebalance can hinder real-time adjustments, and the Guitar De-Noise module's effectiveness is dependent on isolating noise in the audio. While RX 8 raises the bar for audio restoration, some limitations persist, particularly in preview functionality and noise removal versatility. Overall, RX 8 is an essential upgrade for serious audio professionals.

Lifesaver for shitty vocal takes

Before I had the idea of shoving my laptop into the closet, I used to record vocal snippets for my tracks with my PC right next to me. The fan noise from the PC would fuck with me like crazy. I eventually got RX to save me in a lot of those cases thanks to the De-Hum module.

I also used to do my vocal takes with an omnidirectional mic that I used for Sonarworks. The mic tended to pick up a lot of room sound. The De-Reverb module helped me in those cases.

Nowadays I use RX for stuff like headphone bleed (De-Bleed) & mouth clicks (Mouth De-Click). Thankfully I don't need to use it nearly as much as I used to (I rarely even need to pull up anything outside the plugin modules).

Essential, worth it for the Denoiser alone

RX is essential & needs to be in your toolkit. On vocals, I use it to remove the preamp noise from my Focusrite 2i2 - which is already quiet, but RX pushes the noise down 20-30dB quieter. That helps when I'm pushing vocals through several compressors & enhancers. The Declipper also works really well if I've accidentally recorded too hot.

Of course, RX really shines for cleaning up old & badly recorded audio, like podcasts or cassette recordings. It even rescued synth samples I'd sampled in the 90s at 8-bit from a cassette tape!

"'Vocally, things were almost supposed to sound like the mic was being passed around RZA’s flooded basement in 93' (haha). So while I didn't want to take away the lo-fi vibe, the De-plosive and Mouth De-click, and De-crackle modules in RX were used to the point that Doom got his own preset in De-plosive. Esoteric likes his vocal to be very warm and close in proximity, so throwing Alloy on his vocals just for the Exciter section became a go-to move.'
