Gear Purchases

I just checked my bank account right now.

I'm glad my sudden stinginess has paid off because I thought I had much less than I really actually have. Now... to get a damned job!

I thought you guys might want to hear about this, but after France attacks just happened, there's more coming in from Turkey about a possible coup. Military lockdown is going on, and this was just listed:

HER, and yes, this makes a significant difference because even though je is much older than me, I wouldn't mind.

Edit: Like, early 30's

Joh no, my parents helped me with the Hagstrom, so it woul be innapropriate to beg for more. I turn 20 next year, though \m/.

I've been postponed until Saturday to find out if I still can even get the job. This is kind of ridiculous, but a job is a job, however hard you chase for one.

Hope my manager didn't bail on me...

Why does it cost twice as much to make a regular Les Paul with a 25.5" scale neck? Why cruah my dreams? I could one day save up for a standard Les Paul, but I certainly won't have $4.8k lying around in the near future for an extra 0.75" on the neck.

CBS Era Fender Woods

Impeccable taste, friend. I'll have to bookmark this thread for future reference.

Edit: I just saw the inages for the listin f the Mustang Bass. I just want to point out how cool it is that te headstock wasn't entirely covered, leaving that red and orange coloured stripe curling about... Just imagine how that'd look on the body.

10yalmost 10 years ago

Who can help me read the markings on a vintage Fender neck?

A a near successful conclusion to this mystery. How did you end up with that guitar, Star?

10yalmost 10 years ago

Your musician pet peeves

Normally it's the musicians, and it's a hit or miss, all depending on who leads them. Our leader, as an example, usually cuts us down any moment we try to act anywhere near self-rightous or better than orhers etc. Other leaders are lax, and other produce guitarists who condescend others. Kinda like me with that guitarist who sits. Jim corrected me, I learned.

Or, this guy really thought you had no idea what that stuff did. In that case, you probably should have spoke up.

Identifying the gear

The stock says fender, but its actually a sticker, its made by squire

What kind of monster does this?!

Otherwise, I am liking the look of that tele. The colour especially. Is that like a dark wood or some kind of doughey wood colour thing, I can't tell.

10yalmost 10 years ago

Your musician pet peeves

Exactly!! Learning an instrument in part means gettibg to learn thigs on your own. There's so much fun in discovering this stuff without help, that it really dissapoints me that my colleagues and oters miss these little fun oppurtunities.

Wait, Duke, what pedal in the UK costs 30 pounds? That's like the cost of a used metal zone or something or super overdrive.

Complaints, Concerns, Errors, Suggestions, and Ideas!

Whole bands, difficult to tell. Individuals, it's kind of a gut feeling. For example, take Jesse Gunn. He doesn't seem big, but he got extreme coverage in a game called "The Cat Lady". His music really defined that game. He also released a list of te instruments he used. As an individual who's played thed game and heard his music, I personally judged him to be a pro. Others may disagree.

My point is that the closer we approach the nonexistant line, the more balanced the ratio between agree and disagree becomes. For something like this situation, we all should put in a vote or something of the sort. Otherwise, let me hear your ideas.

You definitely want that Tweed Pro more, and it will be well worth the cost of the Vox.

I guarentee it

But seriously, it's yours. If you want to sell it, I'll buy it. If not, AC4TV it is.

Christ, it's a been a whole year since this thread was born?! Wow.

Any situation where you're giving advice simple advice and the other looks like he's swallowing cyanide. I'm not one to dish out tips. Usually it's been crap like mantaining your guitar, but I feel myself internally combust when I hear the words "I just get my strigs changed at the shop".

For the record, there are close to zero situations in which a beginner guitarist with a good entry-level guitarist and a pack of fresh strings and plenty of colleagues who are experienced in the skill (for lack of a better word) of changing strings must find it necessary to have a luthier change his strings out of pure laziness.

I've seen this happen. They NEVER ask the luthier how they do it. Eventually, they turn to a friend to change strings, or thatfriend teaches them and that sickly cycle ends.

Also, modern country. I don't get it why, but any country on the radio. Thanks to my sister, the stereotype of country music beig about beer and cars and women lives on gloriously.

How was the cereal? Did it prove leaving worth leaving Jim's warm internet embrace for?

Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Well worth it. On a side note. Coffee Bean and their piece of shit website are preventing my new manager from even approvig my application...

Who needs a tonw knob when you gpt one 'bucker?! Too many knobs! Throw the knob! 'Bucker straight to amp with no knobs, volume and tone eternally at ten! Plays hard rock riff 'till your ears bleed

Nonetheless, that does not look affordable, and we're both posting at the same time. I'll have a bit of cereal and return in a bit.

nah, its slightly smaller than an LP in depth and otherwise is pretty LPish in dimension... I am a really small person with skinny hands

Both of these statements seem impossible to be true, but at the very least, I saw your hands. Okay, but the guitar? Matbe it's the bridge that's small? It just has that look like... I can't recall which guitar it is... Probably never will. Damn.

I never really looked too much to Firebirds, but when I think of them, no matter what, the Firebird VII comes to mind.

Jim's right, though... Has that muscle car vibe going.

Okay... $500 amp, $50 shipping + Paypal fees, $125 for a new speaker. So $675. Still pretty good.

What did you think of the alcino speaker as apposed to the Celestion?

10yalmost 10 years ago

De-speakered? As in the speaker was removed? If I'm right, then that's still quite generous. I figured you'd use the more for you new amp, forgot to ask.

Your friend suddenly realise his Tweed amp was worth more?

10yalmost 10 years ago

That's quite generous of you, and I might just take you up on that offer... Tell you what: I finally got another job at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (Sport Chalet is now gone forever). I want to see how I do financially in the next few weeks. I've been pretty irresponsible about that.

I know it won't matter, but just out of curiosity, what's this pedal you were talking about? Also, how many guitars do you have?! I knew you basically collect, but that's quite a few you have.

I think my thought-process at the time was "i'm playing in a live setting, therefore I can't be a beginner". Still am though.

But beside that, you have an AC4?! Does it have a 10" or 12" speaker? Top boost? AC4TV is good, but Maybe I can settle with the AC4. I always thougt they were similar in design, especially with the extra 12AX7 tube.

Borrow it. Demo it. Try to reserve it, and scrape up some money. Have any useless stuff lying around waiting to be sold? I have an xbox, and I don't need videogames when I have guitar.

You know, I was looking through a box of old stuff and I found a reciept from the local guitar shop. It was to replace the pickups on my old Aria. It was just last year. Christ, was I ignorant...

I've learned so much in a year, yet i'm always either beating myself up for not knowing enough, or thinking I know all the answers. I should probably slow down a notch.

You know, I was looking at the previous suggestions and I stopped by Blackstar's HT-5. It sounds good on paper, but I'm kind of scared the sound on that thing was recreated on the HT Dual, because even straight to a PA, I never like the distortion nor the crunch settings of that pedal. Kind of why I was seriously considering selling the damned thing for a Messner overdrive or something else.

Thank you for the suggestion, Luxiu.

Did I tell you about my time with Roland's Cube? I took a college course on guitar and we used these 40-watt Cubes. Sound is pretty amazing (JC Clean it says... fantastic). Still, it's stupid heavy, loud as hell, and has so many different settings that I ended up only using the clean channel along with what I think was some blues or tweed setting. I'm sure the Blues Cube is a bit different, but their lowest output level is 30-watts. No different from a 25-watter. BUT, like I said, I will not argue with their JC Clean tone. By far my favourite tone i've heard.

That VHT amp you were talking about, it's the "Special 6". I'll check this out soon... not sure how I feel about it.

go buy AN AMP... you don't need anymore pedals until you get that amp situation taken care of!!!!!

Must... Focus on... AMPLIFIER

Okay okay, sorry. I get sidetracked too easily. New amp. I have some options open (check the Want section of my Equipboard). I'll update that, then i'll see which stores near me supply them. I MUST demo them myself.

Speaking of, I saw a Blues Deluxe for $450 at Guitar Centre the other day. I was sprely tempted to take it, but I realise 40 watts is enough to bring the police to my doorstep. As much as i'd love too, it's not only too much power, too heavy, and useless to me now. I'm not touring or playing shows that require that kid of power. Practice/coffee-shop amp is what I need.

You'd be unpleasantly surprised how I get my internet. No, I won't say, because I neither have the knowledge regarding the exact details of how we do it nor the inclination to be sharing theae details. To say te very least, "we have a guy". Anyways, it's a problem on his end.

Don't let yourself think I forgot about that American Songbook.

I have never felt so tempted in my life...

I've only heard good things about the sheer power of a Rat, so I supposed that the Deucetone just adds on to it. I've seen the Box of Rock on quite a few boards including Ben Gibbard (who has a tone i'm sort of chasing). And the Messner, more of of necessity to have a low-gain overdrive with quite a bit of versatility to jump on the Blackstar Dual. Fuck, I might just sell my Xbox and some any games. Forget that, this is so important right now.
