Bernard Sumner's Studio Equipment

"We used S1000s; Korg T3; Juno 106; Prophet V; Voyetra Eight (best sounding poly analogue, but hard to program); DX5; Moog Source; MIDI Moog; Roland SH101 (red); Roland TR909; MT32; D110; Mac SE; Mac IIex; Sound Tools for stereo mastering, with Up Beat and Pro 4 for sequencing, though we have now changed to another sequencing package as neither of the two used previously worked correctly, a situation which I find extremely annoying."

"Back in his own home studio (equipped with Steinberg Cubase running on an Apple Mac G4), Sumner then imported those ideas and generated new ones using either a Roland XV-5080 or Doepfer MS-404 synth to create string parts, additional bass lines or background atmospherics."

In this interview, Bernard is asked, "Mark: Are you using computers live on stage?"

"Bernard: No, we have been using an AKAI DR-16. Much less problematic than the old Yamaha and Sequential hardware sequencers we used to use. They do exactly what they are supposed to."

Bernard is asked, "What other equipment do you use when writing/recording?" He responds, "We record my vocals through a Drawmer 1960 Compressor and EQ mic pre-amp," in this interview.
