Could we be more proud? Probably not. British rock icons Iron Maiden released their superb new album, 'The Book Of Souls' on September 4 2015. The tones are simply immense, so imagine our delight when we discovered that guitarist, Dave Murray had used a Victory V100 head and V412 cabinet in the sessions. He's also planning to use them in the next round of Iron Maiden touring.

The EV logo on those speakers is a clear giveaway. Judging by the year of the concert which was around 1983 it's quite obvious that they were the Electro-Voice EVM12L Series II speakers which were introduced in 1978 to replace the older EVM12 speakers. The way to differentiate them is that the old EVM12 speakers didn't have the EV logo on their dust cap while the EVM12L Series II speakers had EV logo on their dust caps. They were the first lead series EVM speakers made by Electro-Voice.

Although both JBL D120 and K120 were available in the market in 80's but an easy way to dfferentiate between them is the size of their aluminum domes. The large sized aluminum domes shown in that image belong to K120 speakers, the D120 had substanitally smaller aluminum domes.

This post which lists their tour equiments also hints that they used to use a JBL speaker: https://www.woodytone.com/2010/12/14/early-maiden-murray-smith-gear/

It was speculated that Dave used a boss FA-1 FET preamp, which may be true for later years, but as shown by the document he used an MXR m162 preamp, as the FA-1 had not been released yet. The document seems vague, but it's important to note that the m162 simply was sold as the "MXR preamp". I've tried this pedal with the rest of the gear listen including the 50 watt lead Marshalls and it sounds spot on. It's the secret ingredient to his tone.
