In this interview, Drew Goddard and Mark Hosking talk about Goddard's Peavey 5150 head:

"Hosking: The PRS CE 24 was a great workhorse for us, but we used many different guitars for this record. We also used a lot of different heads like Drew’s trusty Peavey 5150, and I would run a Marshall JCM 800 or 900. Goddard: The 5150 is kind of the common thread. It blended really well with a whole bunch of different amps."

At 9:33 in the video he talks about his trusted zvex Fuzz Factory pedal.

The Sherlock Fathead, which is made in Melbourne, was another amp that we used for a lot of the really crystalline clean stuff. That in combination with the hollowbody PRS McCarty was just awesome.

“I’ve got a few other delays back home, but the main reason I use this is the modulation setting. It’s got a really distinctive characteristic to it – a bit of a chorus wobble that slowly opens up as it goes and it just creates an atmosphere that’s essential to a lot of Karnivool songs. Only four presets spots, though – that’s the only bad thing about that pedal.”

In an interview with Roland Australia, Andrew Goddard of Karnivool mentions using the Boss OC-3 Super Octave pedal on stage.

"Sometimes I will take with me the DD-6. I run a DD-6 for the mandolin into the loop station."

Drew show's off his mid 2023 pedalboard in this interview, clearly showing a HOG 2. The article implies this is a picture of his international touring rig.

Drew has long used the Hog, and now obviously the Hog 2, having discussed it in much older interviews.

I think it's interesting that he doesn't seem to have either MIDI or the optional Hog 2 foot controller attached. I kinda would've expected him to be running presets, allowing for multiple different sounds, maybe integrated with his AxeFX2. The fact that he doesn't implies to me that the Hog 2 is in WYSIWYG mode, which is to say the settings he has in this screenshot might be the actual settings he uses is songs.

With that in mind, I can see he's using a lot of low harmonics, including a 5th harmony, all which are set to a very slow attack meaning they will fade in slowly over the top of his dry tone. There's also just a touch of 3rd octave up, which is interesting, and won't be effected by the slow attack, it might even have it's decay cut back. He's in Step Bend mode which pends up 1 whole step. There's no expression pedal attached, but he could stand on that center switch to cause a momentary one step bend, though I'm not convinced he actually uses that, especially with his dry mixed in. The filter section is also interesting, he has the resonance set very high, which suggests to me he's using a high q filter to really push a particular high frequency band through the mix.

This is a really awesome, versatile pedal, and I think it speaks volumes for it's importance to Karnivool that Drew drags it all around the world despite it's large size. I'm sure he could replicate some effects like this with his AxeFx2 rig, though I suspect if you asked Drew he would say nothing could replace that Hog.

Back in 2015, the Australian Fractal distributor announced that Karnivool was an Axe Fx II Endorsee...

Drew has replaced his old Boss GT3 with an Axe Fx II with an MFC-101 as part of his normal live rig.

I saw them live May 2024, and Drew was definitely still using the AxeFx II.

"Axe FX is something I use quite a bit of, just mainly for effect, not for guitar or distortion sounds. I’m trying to combine that with a couple of tube amps and see what I can come up with but I’m still trying to keep it simple."

"Oh yeah, yeah. That was an Axe FX thing. I mean, It was a mixture of tapping and whammy bar and apeggiator, and I’m catching some of it in a loop, so there’s all sorts of things going on. I like that sort of stuff; loops and strange things that sound sort of ‘other worldly’, and then mixing that stuff with more natural, human sounding stuff. It’s what I dig."

Andrew Goddard, guitarist for Karnivool, uses the Neural DSP Quad Cortex on his pedalboard. This is evidenced by a photo taken on April 21, 2026, in Berlin after a Karnivool concert, which also shows his Boss DD-20 Delay, Dunlop Wah, and Ernie Ball volume pedals. The image can be viewed here.
