An early unit was sold on Reverb.com in 2017.

This StressFX Fuzz is part of the private collection of J Mascis.

From Stress Fx this "Fuzz" pedal is an early version (potentially a prototype?) of what would eventually become their BMP Ram's Head Muff. This clone of the Ram's head is spot on, matching the feel and tone of the original V2 Muff from Electro-Harmonix

J is known for his love for the 70's EHX Ram's Head muff so it's no surprise that this clone would have fallen into his hands. Steel enclosure with (what appears to be) hand drawn graffiti over a former BMP enclosure which points out the functions of the pedal. This Stress FX unit looks, for the most part, unused aside from two missing feet on the bottom.

That being said, knowing J's love for the Ram's Head, it's possible this was a live feature. Furthermore, it's hard to determine at what point during testing and product development this pedal was released to J, but plug this in and you can immediately get that 70's Rams Head feel. Plug this into your favorite DC9V power supply and let 'er rip!

2003 Fulltone Soul Bender V1 - Owned by J Mascis

Picked this up during the J Mascis sale on Reverb a little while ago. It was listed as Non-Functioning, saying it sounded modded or circuit bent. It just had a dead battery, it sounds awesome and just like all the YouTube demos of this version. I was hoping for a project, this one is basically in perfect shape. No box, but comes with a Mascis COA.

I'm selling my original 1968 Marshall Supa Fuzz once owned by J Mascis - thing sounds great. The whole story is in the listing on Reverb. Good price for a rare pedal not counting the fact that J owned it. I used this one and one other SF I own as examples to make the limited run Ark Royal pedal.

"J just got this, which is an old like, 50's, 60's compressor. It's called a Teletronix LA-2A (turns to Dinosaur Jr.) and you guys have been usin' that a bunch, right? Vocals and stuff? Yeah, so that's really an awesome piece of gear."

"This Gretsch Rack Tom Set (Blue Sparkle 70's Rack & Floor) 13x9 & 14x13 is part of the private collection of J Mascis.

Gretsch Drums is an iconic American drum brand manufactured in Ridgeland, South Carolina. For more than 130 years, their award-winning company has been providing 'That Great Gretsch Sound' to drummers around the globe.

This set of Jasper shell tom's carries with it some history unlike most listings on J's store. These toms (13x19 and 14x13 respectively) have proven helpful on several records namely Green Mind and Where You Been (Dinosaur Jr.) and the Upsidedown Cross LP which J has made clear is his favorite record he has ever played on. Awesome! 70's Gretsch 'Stop Sign' USA badges.

Both drums carry a beautiful blue sparkle finish, are in round and ready to set up with your kit. There are several knicks and scrapes and one missing lug from the floor tom hit from years of shows and recordings but nothing that effect the functionality of these excellent drums. Heads are used and should be changed should you be looking to start recording with these. They have absolutely been well loved and used - The best sounding instruments often are.

Floor tom legs are NOT included. They will be shipping to you as photographed here in the listing. Get these pieces of indie rock today!"

Mascis: I've got a DW set that I only record with. It's dimensions are 16 x 28, 12 x 14 and 16 x 18. It's a Tama Imperial snare that I got with my graduation money from high school and a Tama Camco pedal."

Made as a gift to Mascis, as detailed in this July 10, 2013 blog post.

As lots of you know J Mascis is a huge Big Muff collector. He also collects OEM versions of the Muff. OEM stands for "Original equipment manufacturer" who can also make a product for another company to sell as their own product. Lots of companies have done it over the years and EH did it for a few shops around the USA in the early to mid seventies.

They were essentially the current production Big Muff, in the same enclosure but branded for another company.

One of the pedals J's been after for ages is one called a Lyle Distortion Sustainer. They were made for a business called L.D. Heater Music Co. of Portland, Oregon in around 1973. They were essentially a Ram Head Big Muff but more specifically a "Violet" Ram Head so I thought I'd kill a flock of birds with one stone and make a VERY limited number of them based on my Big Mud series.

The idea behind these is to give one to J until he gets a "real" one. I thought it would be cool to make him one to tide him over until one of these rare versions comes along for him to own. It also happens after being continuously asked, I was going to make a production version of the "Violet" Ram Head as part of my Big Muds but was just going to change the current Ram Head to a violet print, like EH did back in the day. Then this idea hit me. Make J one, make it even cooler by making the same circuit but in a rarer enclosure. There's plenty of good Violet Ram Head clones out there, this just makes it a little cooler (I think ?)

For those wondering, Mascis did acquire an original Lyle LD600 later on.

This Cat's Eye Hop Hed Fuzztone is part of the private collection of J Mascis.

One of countless fuzz pedals in the J Mascis shop, the Hod Hed is an all germanium fuzz modeled after the MKIII Tonebender. This is a very rare fuzz in comparison to some of the other options in this shop.

Unfortunately, through years of abuse this pedal no longer works. There is no available power supply however, this pedal does run on standard DC9V power. A repair could be very simple for this item as we have not had the issue diagnosed. Grab this piece of rock history at a steal.

This Gary Hurst Design Tone Bender is part of the private collection of J Mascis.

One of several incredible fuzz pedals in J's ever expanding collection is this: Questionably the closest design to the original, the Gary Hurst Designs Tone Bender. Developed by Gary Hurst one of the lead designers over at Vox, this all germanium fuzz is as good as it gets in regards to warm, rich and lush fuzz tones. This is a replica of the 1965 classic.

This pedal is immaculate. Practically new in box with all associated paperwork. It doesn't appear that J ever brought this on the road, but knowing his massive collection it is likely this may have found it's way on to a recording or two. This pedal is like new. Does not ship with a power supply.
