2003 Fulltone Soul Bender V1 - Owned by J Mascis
Picked this up during the J Mascis sale on Reverb a little while ago. It was listed as Non-Functioning, saying it sounded modded or circuit bent. It just had a dead battery, it sounds awesome and just like all the YouTube demos of this version. I was hoping for a project, this one is basically in perfect shape. No box, but comes with a Mascis COA.

Are you using all Fulltone pedals?
Yes, I use the DejáVibe, the Clyde Standard Wah, and something Mike Fuller built for me called a Wahfull, which is like a cocked wah that you preset with a knob. Sometimes I use his Soul-Bender fuzz. On this record, if a tone is more overdriven it is my signature overdrive, and if it is less overdriven it is either straight into the amp or the original FullDrive.

Someone asked me about my guitar rig recently, so here it is… Now, this changes ALL the time, so it’s different from tour to tour, sometimes from show to show. I like to try new stuff and keep revolving things in and out.
There’s a few things missing… for shows we use a Fender Eric Clapton Twinolux set to half power with this 1956 Fender Deluxe shown here.
Sometimes the Deluxe gets replaced with a Penn Amp Tremlux built by Billy Penn at 300 Guitars.
They’re both on all the time and they run just on the clean side of dirty.
For pedals, I usually use that Lovepedal Eternity there, or for any leads I use the Fulltone Soulbender. The Pedal looking thing is a Fulltone Deja Vibe, which I got from listening to way too much Tom Petty. It’s awesome, and it’s always set to Chorus.
The main guitar I use is a Gibson ES -345 that Nash Guitars converted into a 335 and painted Pelham Blue. (thanks Brendan O’ Brien) it has Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates pickups in it.
So that’s what I’m using most of the time, subject to change at any moment…
