Description
Introducing the Electro-Harmonix J Mascis Ram’s Head Big Muff Pi, a fuzz effects pedal that's far from ordinary. This pedal is not just a mere tool, but an integral part of your musical journey, just as it has been for J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. This 'always-on' pedal is a faithful replica of Mascis's favorite 1973 V2 Violet Ram’s Head Big Muff Pi, renowned for its unrivaled clarity, presence, and definition even under the most demanding settings.
This pedal is not just the tonal foundation of Dinosaur Jr., but also the heart of J Mascis’s laid-back 6-string virtuosity. It's the sonic backbone of the 'Freak Scene' that defined indie rock in the '80s and '90s. The pedal is a perfect blend of the iconic vintage-style sound of a Big Muff classic and the advantages of modern construction.
This pedal has also earned its nickname, the “Ram’s Head”, from the distinct logo in its corner. Though the design is debatable, the performance of this pedal is not. It delivers a powerful sound with endless sustain, ideal for any musical setting.

A Muff That's Bigger and Purpler
I've been using 90's versions of Big Muff's for years and have always been happy with their sound. This 2022 artist signature is completely different in a good way: tighter, grittier and simply inspiring to play on. The harmonics are a much more temperamental to bends which unsurprisingly makes you want to play more with a tremolo bar and slow, half-step bends. Love it!

“That’s my sound. The Muff is always on,” J says. “All distorted sounds begin with the Muff. That’s what I grew up playing so it’s kind of amazing to have my own signature one.”
