In an interview with the Roland Resource Centre, Kirin J Callinan discusses his use of the Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus amplifier.

In the live performance of "Daffodils" by Mark Ronson featuring Kevin Parker on triple j, Kirin J Callinan skillfully uses the DigiTech Whammy Pitch-Shifting Pedal to create dynamic effects.

"At tonight’s gig, Kirin was using 17 Boss effects pedals, an amount of gear he swears he requires to be able to reproduce the tracks from ‘Embracism’. “The Slicer pedal, the SL-20. The RV-5 reverb, the twin, DD-20 Giga Delay,” he says as he begins to list the Boss pedals which are most prominent in his music. “The Boss tuner makes a big appearance on every song,” he continues. “The main ones are beautiful, the reverb … and not just for the big reverb sounds but a lot of them are sharp and gated and cut-off, harsh sounds, that sound like some sort of nasty distortion rather than reverb. The pitch shifters as well, that’s the sound on ‘Embracism’ that people always mistake for synthesiser.”

Kirin J Callinan frequently uses the Duesenberg DSA10 Double Cat guitar, both in his work with Mercy Arms and throughout his solo career. This is evident in his live performance of "Victoria M" on Viva Radio, as seen in the YouTube video by VivaRadioOnline.

Since his other gear was stolen in 2019 this has been his main guitar.

Kirin J Callinan is confirmed to use the DigiTech WH-5 Whammy V, as evidenced by his own Instagram post where he discusses the creation process of the song 'My Little One'. In the post, Callinan describes passing guitars and keys through the DigiTech Whammy pedal, which provided low octave and high octave effects that enhanced the track. This direct statement from Callinan serves as proof of his use of the DigiTech WH-5 Whammy V during recording sessions.

Kirin J Callinan can be seen playing Roland G-707 in this video. He has used this guitar frequently in live performances over the past few years (including the one I attended in Tokyo in 2024), and it's his main guitar recently.
