Marshall Crenshaw's Gear
"I've been playing Fender Stratocasters since 1972 and I love them. I love the way they look. Plus, they have this cool history about them -- that whole West Coast, post-war, one-man, artist-entrepreneur thing." - Guitar Player magazine interview
"I used it all over my early records “Something’s Gonna Happen”, “Monday Morning Rock”, lots more. And onstage too... in the beginning I just had a Stratocaster and this one, plus a couple of 12-strings."
"I also have a really wonderful 1960 Fender Esquire. It's as minimal as you can get. It's two slabs of wood and a single-coil pickup. But when you have just the right pieces of wood and the right amount of coil on the pickup, then you have something magical. That's my Fender Esquire. I also have some really great acoustic guitars, too. I have a Collings, a Bourgeois, and a couple of nice old Guilds."

"For me, the Vox AC30 is about the only amp you need, although I have a bunch" - Guitar Player magazine interview
"I also have a nice 70's Marshall with a Super Lead head. But if I had to get rid of everything and keep just one amp, it would be the Vox."

"Here's a guitar that I play onstage a lot lately: a Galanti Grand Prix, from around 1965. It has a short-ish scale length, a neck contour that's really user-friendly, really fun to play. The pickups are great, really twangy and ballsy.."

"Another of my main stage guitars right now, a Guild C-100d(sic) from 1970 or so. Sonically and physically, this one just works perfectly for me. For many years I played bolt-on neck guitars about 99% of the time; I've been veering away from that lately.."

"I've had this one since 1983, a purple Gretsch sparkle-Jet from the mid-60s. That's a Embie bridge btw, brand new. I've used this onstage a lot over the last few months; it and the Galanti are both tuned down a whole-step."
