Matt Corby's Gear
‘My Martin is the workhorse, though. I have a D-18 and I think my Martin will be the only thing that I’ll tour with for the rest of my life. I love them, they’re really well balanced guitars and they sound how an acoustic guitar should sound, you know? They don’t need a lot of manipulation, when you’re playing live. They just do what they do and do it so well. I use Fishman pickups in most of my acoustics, but I just fitted an EQ system on my pedal board, too. I’ve got the Boss RC-20 lopper down there with it. I think it’s that one, I look at it everyday and still can’t manage to remember the name of it,’ he says laughing. ‘I use Elixir Polyweb 10 gauge for my acoustics, the Guild has Ernie Ball Slinkys on it, though. I’m so bad with names, it’s just like “Yeah, the purple packet, thanks”,’ says Matt Corby in this interview with Acoustic Magazine.
Matt Corby stops by Balcony TV Melbourne's "Music With a View" and plays a live set with his Martin D-28. The guitar can first be seen at :10s in the video.
In this article, Corby says, "My Martin is the workhorse, though. I have a D-18 and I think my Martin will be the only thing that I’ll tour with for the rest of my life. I love them, they’re really well balanced guitars and they sound how an acoustic guitar should sound, you know? They don’t need a lot of manipulation, when you’re playing live. I think it’s that one, I look at it everyday and still can’t manage to remember the name of it."
At 2:17 in this video, Matt can be clearly seen using a SM7B.
"Oh, well I have a Strat and a Tele, but I do have this beautiful Gibson Tennessean Chet Atkins which is about 25-years-old and it’s so nice." - Matt Corby from this February 6, 2013 Acoustic magazine article.
During this live performance of "Trick of the Light", you can see Matt's pedalboard at 6:25, complete with the Electro-Harmonix Cathedral Stereo Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal.
In this video you can see Matt using his strat while playing a very stripped version of his popular song brother.
In this live version of Trick of the light, at 5:51 we get a glance at Corby's pedalboard, and we can clearly see the Strymon Mobius on his minimalistic board.
Matt talks about the gear he uses in this Acoustic magazine article saying "I have a Guild 1965 T50 which I picked up for $700 in a second-hand shop! I’ll be taking the Guild on the road with me for the first time at the end of the year. It’s just got its own sound and I’m in love with it."
Matt says in this article "I use Elixir Polyweb 10 gauge for my acoustics, the Guild has Ernie Ball Slinkys on it, though. I’m so bad with names, it’s just like 'Yeah, the purple packet, thanks.'". The article is from Acoustic magazine.
You can see the Strymon Flint Tremolo & Reverb Pedal at 6:25 in this video (top right corner of screen).
skip to 3.48 to see Matt's pedal board for the "Telluric Tour 2016"
In this live performance of 'Brother' on Matt Corby's Secret Garden Tour, he can be seen using a Fender Telecaster.
Matt Corby used a Tyler McGrath Guitars (TMG) Dover when playing the Resolution Tour, and in the studio.
We can see him playing a nord Stage 88. At 2:42 we are able to see the "eighty eight" text on the right.
At 5:51 his feet are shown and we can see the "pedaltrain-mini" text. During this concert he may have used 2 of these.
7:45 we get a closeup and under VUmeters there is the UREI logo and below it's typed model 1178
at 3:03 he is playing the bass and on the headstock it's clearly written Hofner. Judging by its design (single cut) and headstock shape it is probably a CT.
Around 2:38 Matt moves the synth out of the way putting it in its usual place. Considering the shape of the synth, the color palette of the buttons and getting a glimpse of the text on the synth at 2:42, I can assume it's a Juno 106.
In this audio live show of Matt playing at Splendour In The Grass, a slideshow of images can be seen and at 17:05 an image is displayed in which Matt is clearly playing a Mellotron and judging by its back I suppose this is a mini. I think some other pictures from that show can be seen on the internet with the Mellotron.
