Used on Mason's bass drum to produce the "heart beat" on "Speak to Me", as stated by sound engineer Alan Parsons in this June 1998 interview with Media&Marketing.
The opening [heart beat] was just a gated bass drum. Kepex noise gates or expanders were quite a new technology at the time. It actually explains a lot about the sound of the album, since the Kepex had a sound of its own.

A Sonny Payne Model drumstick signed by Mason and used at Pink Floyd's October 27, 1969 performance at The Electric Garden was auctioned via Julien's in August 2023.
A Gretsch 3D Sonny Payne Model drumstick that was stage used by Nick Mason during the Pink Floyd performance that took place at the Electric Garden, Glasgow, Scotland on 27th October 1969. Comes with a letter from the original recipient that reads ‘Pink Floyd’s performance in Glasgow’s Electric Garden had just ended. The crowd were making their way to the exit. We had been sitting in the floor, right at the front, below the low stage. The venue was becoming quite empty but we were in no hurry to leave. I was surprised to see Roger Waters suddenly appear from backstage. He was holding two drumsticks. One in each hand. There was no microphone. He appeared to be searching for someone. A pre-arranged meeting possibly. Then he quietly said “Someone asked for one of Nicky’s drumsticks?” Of the few people left.. no one came forward. I thought “I’m having one of them!” I jumped up and thanked him as I took one of Nick Mason’s drumsticks and quickly headed for the exit’. The condition is very good.
