Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Remo Ambassador Clear Drumhead.

Comparisons

  • Clear Ambassador heads are less durable but suitable for jazz and light rock, while Emperor heads excel in loud rock with more attack and durability.

    Source
  • For hard-hitting styles, Remo Clear Emperors or Evans Clear G2s are recommended alternatives for the batter side due to better durability.

    Source
  • For enhanced attack and durability, alternatives like Remo CS Blackdot and Evans EC Reverse Dot are preferred over standard clear heads.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • Clear heads show stick marks prominently, whereas coated heads develop a more opaque patina over time.

    Source
  • The term "hazy" refers to snare side heads, used on the bottom of a snare drum, not meant for striking as a batter head.

    Source
  • Coated heads are slightly thicker, warming the tone and offering minor tone control, but primarily benefit brush use.

    Source

User experience

  • Clear Emperor heads on an oak kit deliver bright tones with strong attack, ideal for cutting through mixes in rock settings.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Single-ply coated heads are preferred for jazz and versatile across genres, offering a balance of tone and durability.

    Source
  • Clear Ambassador heads are not suitable for hard-hitting metal due to their thin, single-ply design, which can lead to frequent replacements.

    Source
  • Hazy Ambassador heads can be used as resonant heads on toms for those seeking a specific sound, although they're not ideal for batter heads.

    Source
  • While clear heads are typically for toms, they can work as snare batter heads if brushes aren't used, adding a brighter tone.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • For metal, a 2-ply head on the batter side and a single-ply clear head on the resonant side is recommended for durability and sound.

    Source
  • Drum heads should match the drum's inside diameter; measure the shell, not external hardware, for accurate sizing.

    Source
  • Tuning involves evenly stretching the drum head, similar to adjusting a hat or grippy bedsheet, to ensure balanced sound.

    Source
  • Regular retuning is essential as playing gradually detunes heads; resonant heads last 2-3 times longer than batter heads.

Remo Ambassador Clear Review - Drumhead Authority

drumheadauthority.com

The Remo Ambassador Clear Drumhead is a staple, known for its bright, open sound and impressive sustain, making it ideal for toms and snare drums. Its single-ply 10mil construction offers clarity and resonance, allowing drums to shine in moderate volume settings. However, its low durability and high overtone potential mean it might not be the best choice for drummers seeking a more controlled or warmer sound. Those needing a softer tone or using brushes should consider the coated version. While versatile and popular, it requires careful tuning or dampening for best results.

Remo Ambassador clear used as resonant heads

I use these heads on all of my toms (10'',12'',14'',16'') as resonant heads. They are good resonant heads giving body to your toms. You can experiment with different bottom head tunings opposing the batter head to differentiate between sustain length. Or you could tune them to exactly the same pitch, giving endless resonance. It is necessary though to respect the ratio between heads. Often a bad tom sound is due to the resonant head not being tuned properly. These heads work great as batter heads as well.

"Clear pinstripes on the top and clear ambassador’s on the bottom gives the acrylic kit much more of an open tone which I could then control if required with a Moongel or two but once again I would try to avoid this for the look."
