Prince's Gear
Spotted :50s in, on top of his Mesa Boogie cabinets.
From a Reverb online article:
"Prince had requested an amp with a lot of clean headroom that could be used as a pedal platform. Soldano built eight of these amps for him. 4 were built for Prince, and 4 were built for his guitarist, Donna Grantis.
This amp sounds nothing at all like a typical Avenger. It has a very clean tone, with no distortion whatsoever. The clean sound is closer to the Lucky 13 than to any other Soldano amp I've owned. It's a great sounding amp, and as designed, it excels when being used as a pedal platform.
These amps can be seen on stage during Prince's performances from 2014 on, including his most recent performance from Saturday Night Live."
From a picture from Prince’s Guitar Book released by Paisley Park it shows Prince guitar pedalboard and you can spot a Voodoo Lab Pedal 2 Plus on the lift side.
Prince used a Hammond B-3 organ, which is featured in several of his concert films, including "Rave Un2 The Year 2000" and "Prince Live At The Aladdin Las Vegas." Although the specific model is uncertain, some suggest it might be a Hammond XK-5 SKX. Photos from Andrea Mai's article on Paisley Park provide further insight into Prince's gear collection.
Prince used an Orr Bass on the For You and Prince albums. It is mentioned in the credits to the For You album.
Prince played an Ibanez GB12 George Benson from 1997 onward. It was a gift from George Benson himself.

"When he picks up a bass onstage, he favors his white Warwick Thumb "Eye Bass" (so named because of the eye painted on the front), a white fretless Warwick Thumb, or his custom Lakland with a fist-shaped headstock. "
These Mesa heads were usually paired with either Mesa Recto 4x12 cabs or Marshall 4x12 cabs loaded with Vintage 30’s (the Marshall’s).
In the article "Prince: The Unsung Guitar Hero" on Pro Guitar Shop, it is noted that Prince used the Roland GP-16 Digital Guitar Effects Processor, among other effects such as the Dunlop Rotovibe and Zoom 9030, in his pedalboard setup.
The Artist plays bass on nearly all of the Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic tracks. (Rhonda S. appears on two songs.) For most of his parts The Artist used Graham’s Moon bass with Bartolini pickups; when the Moon was unavailable he used the Warwick Eye Bass. Engineer Hans-Martin Buff ran the signal into an Avalon U5 active DI, either a Demidio or Neve mike preamp, a Summit Audio compressor, and sometimes an API 550 EQ.

At 0:40 in the music video for 'Manic Monday' by Prince, on the right hand side of his pedalboard you can see the BOSS PSM-5 Power supply in use. This pedal may have only been used in practices, or possibly also in his pre Purple Rain performances.
Between 2005 and 2012, Prince frequently used the Dunlop 535Q Cry Baby Multi-Wah pedal in his performances, as evidenced by various appearances on his pedalboard. This information is corroborated by discussions on prince.org.
In a interview Lisa Coleman said that Oberheim was a big part of Prince’s sound. She later saids Prince was incredibly bold in the way he would just use a preset and then brighten the fuck out of it! He would turn the filter way up so the sound would cut through the mix. I still have the OB-SX from those days. It’s one of the most simple Oberheims - there are just a few knobs on it, but that was the most quintessential keyboard from that era. There’s the organ sound from When You Were Mine or The Beautiful Ones. If you play that organ sound with a delay pedal, there you go! And the horn punches? Play [preset] C1. That’s the sound!”
In an interview featured on prince.org, Dr. Fink and Rosie Gaines discuss Prince's use of the ARP Solina String Ensemble, highlighting its role in his music production.
