Sakamoto plays the Yamaha Motif ES8 on his live performance in the early-mid 2000s. He also plays the Kaoss Pad 2 in the middle of this particular performance.

Ryuichi Sakamoto used the Roland EP-30 during a charity concert in 2007, as shown in a YouTube video by haneul1110. He also performed on piano at Live Earth in July of the same year.

Your innovative live show combines audio and video elements, and is based around two Yamaha Disklavier grand pianos. How are they connected and programmed?

Leaving aside the subtleties of music and culture, we begin by establishing Sakamoto's current equipment line-up. It transpires that he uses three racks which he takes almost everywhere with him. These contain the nucleus of the hardware. On top of these, he favours a Macintosh IIfx running Mark of the Unicorn and Opcode sequencing software in conjunction with Opcode's Studio 5 synchroniser/MIDI patchbay.
