Stu Mackenzie's Gear
Stu Mackenzie used a sitar during the recording of "Head On/Pill" and throughout the album "Float Along - Fill Your Lungs," as shown in the accompanying user-uploaded photo on Imgur.
In the live performance video by KEXP, Stu Mackenzie of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard does not use a Fender Monogrammed Guitar Strap.
You can see he is using Audio-Technica ATH-M50x while recording Polygondwanaland
Bought on June 5th, 2022 in Barcelona after Stu's Holy Explorer was crushed in a road case by a lift. Used at the first King Gizzard show in Barcelona for the Primavera Sound festival.
Stu can be seen playing a Gibson SG Special-3 throughout most if 2024 (as seen in the video). Presumably, this guitar was a sub-in for his typical Holy Explorer, as they had shipped their gear to South America ahead of their tour there in March 2024.
The guitar is modified as it has a seymore duncan single coil humbucker (as seen in the screenshot). This pickup is also seen in his iconic black hagstrom 12 string.
NB: this product is listen incorrectly - this model is from 2007, specifically Gibson's Guitar of the Week (GOTW) #30.
You can see it during the drumroll at the start of the video.
Stu posted his pedalboard on King Gizzard's Instagram story, and the new ones are Old Blood Noise Maw, and a DOD expression pedal, which I think he uses both for his mic.
In the video "King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Sessie @ Where The Wild Things Are 2016," Stu Mackenzie is seen playing a Yamaha SG-2. It is suggested that this guitar may belong to fellow band member Joey Walker.
Bought by Stu after his Holy Explorer was crushed, eventually seen on the King Gizzard Instagram and at the July 31st show for the All Together Now 2022 festival. Now being used by Cook Craig.
In this video of King Gizz preforming 'This Thing' Live https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=126&v=i2jDh67P7a8&feature=emb_logo at 2:06 you can see Stu playing a Nord Electro 6D 61
Throughout the 2022 KEXP session multiple members of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard including Stu Mackenzie can be seen using Shure Beta 57a dynamic microphones, some of the microphones are missing the iconic blue shock ring that is standard on Shure Beta microphones.
Stu Mackenzie can also be seen using the Shure Beta 57a on several other instances of their North America 2022 tour - including throughout the entirety of the following footage of Bonnaroo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbTBVZuTq4k&t=1844s
This Instagram post was made not long ago and features a picture of Stu and Cavs in their current studio setup, presumably for whatever synth based stuff they're working on right now. The caption of this post is quite the anagram, writing "Poly Dog 61:Ambrose Kenny-Synth: Stuno-106: Moogas: : JoeTools: WAVs*". However, with the knowledge that the band member's various nicknames/aliases have simply been fused with the synths they've been playing, it makes working out a lot of the details easier; for example, "Poly Dog 61" refers to Cook Craig's Korg Poly 61, while "Moogas" refers to Lucas Harwood's Moog Grandmother. "Stuno-106", like the others, is in reference to Stu's usage of a Roland Juno-106.
This picture, taken at the KGLW Show in Berlin, shows Stu Mackenzie's Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp on the left side.
Stu posted his pedalboard on King Gizzard's Instagram story, and the new ones are Old Blood Noise Maw, and a DOD expression pedal, which I think he uses both for his mic.
In this Mixdown Magazine Gear Rundown, Stu mentions owning the Spring King:
I do have one of those big yellow Danelectro Spring King pedals, which can be pretty cool as a studio tool. That’s that sound on Hot Wax that keeps coming in, I was just punching one of those.
Stu is seen wearing these in the video for The River at 5:52.
Used by Stu in this 2013 performance of God Is Calling Me Back Home. Also used in the Vegemite music video and on some performances of Head On/Pill by Ambrose.
Used in this acoustic performance of Sleepwalker from 2014
This early video of Stu's old band Revolver & Sun shows him playing a Telecaster.
Used by Stu Mackenzie on this guest performance with The Murlocs in 2019.
Borrowed from Cook to use on 2019 performances of Boogieman Sam
You can see Stu use the HD 280's throughout this video.
In an Instagram post by user "kinggizzard," the Moog Little Phatty is visible in the left front of the picture. The caption references "Moogas," indicating the presence of the Moog synthesizer. This particular model appears to be a special edition with a white back panel, confirming Stu Mackenzie’s use of this gear.
Stu can be seen holding a Casio DG-10 in this King Gizzard Instagram post, it was confirmed to be a DG-10 in an Instagram story by Ambrose which showed the guitar better.
In this collection of images from King Gizzard's instagram, you can see Stu attending to his keyboard stack with an SK-5 on the second level of the keyboard stand.

Fender Band-Master VM Vintage Modified 2-Channel 40-Watt Guitar Amp Head 2009 - 2012
Guitar Amplifier HeadsThis video of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's first concert. In said video, Stu Mackenzie seems to be using a Fender Band-Master VM Vintage Modified 2-Channel 40-Watt Guitar Amp Head. You can tell by the "V" logo on the bottom right corner of the head.
Stu can be seen using this synth as his main board for the last US and Europe tour. It seems as they purchased two for replacing the previous Nord Electro 6D Stu and Cookie used on stage, probably due to better/easier live manipulation on the synth patches. In the source video both Juno X's can be clearly seen.
Stu is listed as using a TR-808 for the recording of The Silver Cord on the album's Bandcamp notes
Stu is listed as using a BlueSky in the liner notes for The Silver Cord on Bandcamp
