Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock)'s Gear
According to the article It was Ad-Rock's very first guitar. It had a now rare House Of Pain sticker on it, because they toured wth The Beastie Boys. He smashed it on July 4th, 1992 in Italy.
"Ad-Rock always liked to play cheap guitars live on-stage, including a Hondo, while in the studio it was usually the Paul by Gibson"
Ad Rock has been loyal to old Hondo guitars and often used the one his mother first got him as a teenager. In the sabotage live on Letterman he can be seen playing a Hondo H-77 HSS strat copy. This had been mistakenly identified as a fender Strat previously but the Hondo logo can clearly be seen on the headstock throughout the video particularly at 2:32.
Ad-Rock can be seen here playing a 1963 Gibson Melody Maker Double Cutaway guitar onstage at Live Earth at Wembley Stadium in 2007. The guitar was used primarily on the song "Sabotage"
At 3:05 you can see that, next to Ad-Rock's foot there is a DS-1 with a green sticker on the front of the effect.
A young Ad Rock uses an E-mu SP-1200 in this photo hosted on Pinterest.
"I bought this on eBay for $200. It's a guitar with extra strings that vibrate to make a kind of sitar sound."
At 0:46 there is a shot of Ad-Rock's JCM-900 on top of the slanted Marshall Cabinet.
"After nearly 15 years producing music on his trusty SP1200 workstation, Adam made a near instant switch to Reason after a recommendation of fellow Beastie Boy."
Quoted from this article by Rolling Stone:
“Mike D and Adam Yauch want to release a remix EP of the hip-hop songs from Hello Nasty, which Horovitz put together using his new drum machine, the Rave-O-Lution 309..”
Behind Ad-Rock at 0:46 in this live performance of Sabotage you can (not very clearly) see a Marshall JCM-900. It's an SL-X Model!
In this video at 3:05 exactly, you can see Ad-Rock's minimal pedalboard. Next to a DS-1 there is a Cry Baby wah that Ad-Rock is stomping on.
At 0:23 you can see Ad-Rock's Vox AC30.
Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock) used a Fender Deluxe Amp for groove-oriented tracks, as mentioned in Soundonsound's article on the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage."
In the Beastie Boy Book, Ad-Rock tells the story of how he went to a music store with $250 in his pocket, intent on purchasing a new guitar, but saw, fell in love with, and bought the TR-808 instead.

Adam can be seen using his Fender Jazzmaster at their performance in Glasgow, Scotland. The Jazzmaster is seen at 22:19, a slight glimpse at 42:27, and a few clips starting at 45:17.
Ad rock can be seen playing Teisco Del Rey EB-200 in this photo.
In this photo, Ad-Rock is recording with the Maestro Rhythm & Sound G2. There is a similar model, the G1, but since the G1 does not have a black button, you can definitely tell that this effector is the G2. Based on the explanation in the link below, it seems that he used it in the recording of "Check your head" album (1991-1992). https://www.udiscovermusic.com/stories/beastie-boys-photos-career-gallery/
Adam Horovitz, also known as Ad-Rock, is confirmed to use the Guild Starfire I SC, identifiable in a provided image where he is seen playing the instrument. The distinctive features of this semi-hollowbody electric guitar, such as its pickups, pickguard, and sunburst color, firmly establish its identification as a Guild Starfire I SC.
In this photo, Horovitz is seen alongside Adam "MCA" Yauch at the "Get Out and Vote" tour 2008 playing a Fender Telecaster.
