Many synthesis variations in a same box, like no other Nord. But no arpeggiator nor sequencer. Limited aftertouch.
Great collectable synth, first and limited edition of Bob Moog's last project: the Little Phatty. No other Little Phatty has wood side panels and Bob's signature on the back. Great tone, many people prefer it to the newer Phatties (SP, Sub 37). But keys are crap and the Tribute Edition is specially difficult to upgrade to the latest OS 3.21 (with many improvements like arp) since a hardware upgrade is required.
My first pro synth. Remember paying 3000 USD in Brazil, in 1998. For many years my only keyboard for study and stage. Excellent keys. Extremely heavy: 25kg. Full featured workstation. The included Perfect Piano board is better than the piano on many modern keyboards. Organs are meh.
Always wanted the DX7 II as a child. Looked for a Mark I (the original game changer back in 83) in mint condition and found one. Great keys, classic sounds and the classic brown design. Even limited and dated nowadays, there's something really special about it.
Small gear and knobs, huge and aggressive sounds. I wanted to replace a Little Phatty in my set and the SE-02 surpassed my expectations. Now, it fits perfectly on top of a Nord Wave.
I bought this to be my only stage keyboard, replacing a heavy Ensoniq ZR76. It's light (ZR's 25kg), has good organs (ZR's are not good) and synths. But has bad pianos (ZR's excellent) and is very limited as a MIDI Controller. Today, I'd go for a Nord Electro or Stage.
It used to be useful to connect directly to my iPad 2. Not all controllers were able to connect to an iPad. Nowadays, it's much easier to connect to an iPad with the camera connector. It can't connect to sound modules via Midi, just to iPad via proprietary cable or to a computer via USB. Today, would buy a Key Step instead.

Thousands of sounds, 4 tracks in a portable and battery-powered device. I take it everywhere. Great way to start with grooveboxes.
Great classic sounds. Years after launch, can be found second hand with good prices. Roland stopped selling the 7x7 Expansion in July 2020 (probably was competing with TR-8S sales), so if you want those extra sounds, need to find a TR-8 with the extension already activated. The expansion worth it.
