Use cases and applications
Comparisons
-
Despite the Nord Wave 2's capabilities, for classic rock and electromechanical sounds, the Electro or Stage models are more suitable, leveraging the Nord library effectively.
Source -
The Nord Electro 6D offers synth patches but lacks tweakability like real synths; for purists, pair with an Oberheim rackmount for authentic Van Halen/Rush sounds.
Source -
Nord Lead A1 offers the advantage of using four independent outputs for each part, providing more live performance mixing flexibility than the Wave 2.
Source -
The Nord Lead A1 provides broader FM synthesis options using 42 waveforms, compared to the Wave 2's limited FM capabilities with sine waves only.
Source -
The Nord Wave 2 exceeds the Prophet-6 in polyphony and layering capabilities but lacks the Prophet's distinctive sound and interface simplicity.
Source
Features and functionality
-
The Electro model allows dampening of filter, dynamics, and ADSR settings, but lacks LFO or filter sweep, focusing on quality samples rather than synthesis.
Source -
The Nord Electro series excels in electromechanical sounds like organs and clavinets, especially in generations 4, 5, and 6.
Source -
The Wave 2's complex arpeggiator pattern editor often remains unused by owners who prefer sequencing complex patterns in a DAW.
Source -
The Wave 2's filter includes a setting designed to emulate a Moog filter, but its authenticity compared to actual Moog synths is subjective.
Source -
Owners appreciate the programmable arpeggio, which can be set to unique intervals like 1.2 between octaves.
Source -
The Nord Wave 2's aftertouch adds depth to morphing, enhancing expressive playability beyond what the Nord Lead A1 offers.
Source
Software and compatibility
-
The Nord Sample Editor 4 allows for sampling and installing patches across Nord models if they're sampled, enhancing versatility.
Source
