Zoom H1n Review: Quiet Enough for Nature? — Acoustic Nature

acousticnature.com

The Zoom H1n shines as an affordable, entry-level field recorder, offering impressive low-noise performance and remarkable stereo separation, even in challenging nature settings. Its small size and lightweight design make it perfect for extended use, though its plastic construction requires careful handling. While the intuitive menu system is a plus, the slow power-on time and lack of support for cards larger than 32GB might frustrate users seeking more extensive storage options. Additionally, the absence of included wind protection limits its outdoor adaptability. Despite these drawbacks, the H1n is a solid choice for beginners looking to capture quality nature recordings on a budget.

Zoom H1n Review - Academic Transcription Services

weloty.com

Zoom's H1n is a commendable upgrade over its predecessor, offering impressive sound quality and versatile recording options like 96 kHz 24-bit WAV. Its ability to power boundary and lavalier mics makes it a fantastic choice for professional audio tasks like interviews and focus group recordings. However, it falls short with its analog knob that can easily alter settings, lack of internal memory, and limited battery life. Handling noise and a less effective low cut filter are minor drawbacks, but the USB power option compensates for battery limitations. Overall, it's a solid entry-level recorder for professionals, though not ideal for casual users.

Zoom H1n Review — The Time Preservation Society

thetps.ca

The Zoom H1n is a compact and affordable field recorder that impresses with its portability and functionality. It boasts a sleek design with handy features like an X-Y stereo mic configuration, a firm gain dial, and a backlit screen, making it user-friendly. Its ability to record up to 24-bit/96kHz offers good sound quality for on-the-go recordings. While the onboard mics can be slightly noisy, this can be mitigated with external mics like the Clippy. The dual AAA batteries may feel like a downgrade from the original's single AA, but overall, the H1n remains a top choice for its price point. Despite not being the best in its class, it’s praised for its practicality, making it the best pocket field recorder for $100. It's a reliable option for casual recording enthusiasts who value convenience and affordability.

First thoughts on the new Zoom H1n audio recorder - Sam Mallery

sam-mallery.com

The Zoom H1n is a solid update to its predecessor, offering improved sound quality, practical front-facing controls, and a handy built-in limiter. However, its new rotary dial cannot be locked, which could be a deal-breaker for wedding videographers who relied on the old model's lockable controls. It also lacks a memory card, unlike the original. While it looks better and has some new features, the $20 price increase may not justify the trade-offs for everyone. Overall, it's a decent recorder but not without its drawbacks.

Zoom H1n, a compact audio recorder - Learn About Film

learnaboutfilm.com

The Zoom H1n impresses as a compact audio recorder, offering filmmakers and field recorders a versatile tool with superior built-in microphones and significant improvements over its predecessor, particularly in handling wind noise. Enhanced controls and usability make it a practical choice for diverse recording needs. However, it retains some sensitivity to handling noise and might produce slight hiss with certain external mics. Despite these minor drawbacks, the H1n stands out for its affordability and quality, making it a recommended entry-level choice for capturing high-quality stereo sound.

On the Zoom H1n "Handy" Field Recorder: Review - Earth Notes

earth.org.uk

The Zoom H1n Handy Recorder impresses with its lightweight design and intuitive user interface, making it a solid choice for field recording. Its ability to record high-quality stereo 16-bit 48ksps WAV files is a boon for podcasters and hobbyists alike. However, it falls short with its flimsy build, lack of built-in charging, and no substantial internal memory. The absence of FLAC support and the need for AAA batteries might deter some users. Despite these drawbacks, the overall experience is positive, with a notable ease of use once you're familiar with its quirks. Rating: 4.5/5.

A Solid Starter Mic

The h1n is incredibly versatile for the price, and the audio quality is solid both in the field and studio. You WILL need to get a pop filter for it to be useable though, and the gain settings can be really touchy. I've used this in the past for field interviews and studio vocals, and it's found a good secondhand use as a USB mic for Discord and video calls.

Amazing Recording Quality, but slightly Flimsy.

I bought this with some money I got for my birthday, and I'm amazed by the sound quality but not by the Build Quality. The only sturdy thing on this is the Microphones/Cage around the Microphones. The rest of the unit feels like it may break further down the line.

So much functionality

I even use it as my guitar looper. I hope those plastic parts won't break
