Endlessly inspiring and immediate synth. Sounds as good as synths that are twice the price. Just buy it.

Ok, I'm going to gush a bit because I'm in love with this thing.

If you just went and bought this right now, you'd immediately find a good use for it in your music and would probably have zero regrets. It doesn't have a really specific character like a Moog, but this means it'll sit nicely in the mix for just about any genre.

I got mine home, plugged it in with my Digitakt, and striaght away was jamming. This thing can sound as fat, dirty, or crisp and clean as you like. I'm using mine more for basses and rhythmic elements (using the noise generator) - and for this it's so, so perfect.

The output is also suuuuper clean. I initially checked out a Dreadbox Typhon, but that thing is so damn noisy (and kind of muddy sounding). In contrast (noise-wise), the SE02 outputs basically no noise for a clean, crisp signal.

It's monophonic, but you have so much control over each oscillator (and there's three of them), that each can almost have its own timbre. One even has its own filter! You can even modulate one oscillator with another using the xmod controls. Simply, lots of control over your sound.

The tiny knobs do take some getting used to, but I got the hang of it after 10-15 mins and totally forgot about them.

If you're in the market for a portable monosynth, it's a really solid choice.

Excellent Analog Synth from the collaboration of Roland & Studio Electronics

I finally acquired this synth today 2024 03 14 for $280 with the K25 Controller after years of it being on the "items to add to the sonic family".

My friend at Roland mentioned a while back that these were discontinued.

While I certainly have a Moog and the Behringer clone, this joint creation between Studio Electronics and Roland for the Boutique series is quite unique with its PWM and sequencer gems.

I look forward to creating in the studio for my own art as well as client work. It is always exciting for sessions when you can be "hands-on" with equipment.

Small Knobs BIG SOUND

I just got my Roland SE-02. and its pretty amazing. First impressions, the packaging looked fantastic so that's already giving it 3 gold stars outta 5... HUGE LOW END, and can get really buzzy to simple sweet tones to titanium t-rex growls. Knobs were hilariously tiny but not too tiny (fyi i can palm a basketball), even my girlfriend laughed when she saw them. Also the knobs are not as loose as I thought they would be from all the complaints I heard, they're about the same level of sturdiness as a Korg MS20 (plus Studio Electronics is developing a VST editor for it, that's suppose to come out soon.) The delay actually sounds pretty good and when you put the time on zero you can get this haunting sound. Still got a lot more exploring to do, the sound shaping options on here are pretty dynamic, can't wait to use it in a techno track, where a sweet bass donk slowly transforms into something crazy.

Little Monster

Small gear and knobs, huge and aggressive sounds. I wanted to replace a Little Phatty in my set and the SE-02 surpassed my expectations. Now, it fits perfectly on top of a Nord Wave.

A fantastic little synth wiht a HUGE sound

Love the lot of features on this small, all analog, synthesizer. Small knobs can be a problem for some people, I don't mind them at all. Easy to get used to. Nice onboard digital delay. Great LFO.
