Mojave Audio is a North Hollywood, California-based microphone manufacturer founded by David Royer, who began hand-building vacuum tube microphones and studio gear in his Fullerton, California garage in 1985. A former Navy sonar technician, Royer spent two decades crafting custom condenser microphones for top Los Angeles studio engineers before officially launching Mojave Audio as a company in 2005, with producer and engineer Dusty Wakeman joining as president. The company is a sister brand to Royer Labs, the ribbon microphone manufacturer that Royer co-founded in 1998.
Mojave Audio specializes in large-diaphragm condenser microphones spanning both tube and solid-state (FET) designs. The lineup includes the MA-200 and MA-300 tube condensers, the MA-201fet and MA-301fet phantom-powered FET models, the flagship MA-1000 multi-pattern tube microphone, and the TEC Award-winning MA-37. Every microphone is designed and assembled at the company's facility using Jensen transformers made in the USA and new-old-stock (NOS) vacuum tubes, with each unit burned in for 24 hours and personally auditioned by David Royer before shipping.
Mojave microphones are widely used by prominent recording engineers and producers, including Michael Ilbert (Coldplay, Taylor Swift), Noah "40" Shebib (Drake, The Weeknd), Dave Jerden (Jane's Addiction, Alice in Chains), and Greg Wells (Katy Perry, Adele). The brand has earned five NAMM TEC Award nominations and is known for delivering warmth and presence suited to vocal and instrument recording in professional studio environments.
