Grant Kirkhope's Gear
"For music I use Pro Tools as my DAW (digital audio workstation)."
" Kontakt is my sample holder. I also use Hollywood Strings for woodwinds and brass, True Strike for percussion, Omnisphere, Damage — that kind of thing."
Find it on:
"The equipment I am currently using (for those of you out there that care) is as follows: 1. PC running CubaseVST score, Sound Forge, development kit for the appropriate console. Various other bits and pieces of software doing weird and wonderful things. 2. Roland JV1080 with extra sound cards, Roland S-760 Sampler, EMU ProteusFX, EMU UltraProteus, SoundScape hard disk recorder (I'm bored already) and loads of CD-ROMs full of all manner of lovely sounds for you to hear."

"I was using Gigastudio loaded with the Vienna Symphonic Library and Pro tools for the music for Ghoulies."
(The VSL Listing here is incorrect and outdated. Instead Grant use Pro and First Editions instead.)
"I bought an Atari ST and a synth and a copy of Cubase and sent five demo tapes over the course of a year to Rare and heard nothing. Out of the blue I got a letter asking me to come for an interview, and I got the job!"
"I use Pro Tools, Kontakt, Vienna Pro Ensemble, Vienna Symphonic Library and Hollywood Strings mainly. I have to say I don't really think it matters what you use, they're all pretty much the same. Pro Tools is a bit annoying as it's so expensive and to get full functionality they always charge you for extra add ons like Surround Sound. There are lots of other software packages out there that give you it all for half the cost. If I can make myself learn something new I'll probably change to something else."
List of Grant Kirkhope's tools includes "Guitar, Keyboard, Cubase 4, Pro Tools HD, GigaStudio, Sound Forge, etc."

When asked about the boards used, he said he recalls those being the ones used. The exact boards were found, due to deducing which sounds he used in what cards for his games.

Grant Kirkhope mentioned on Twitter that he recalls using the Roland SR-JV80-04 Vintage Synth Expansion Board. This deduction was made based on the specific sounds he used in his game compositions.
Grant Kirkhope mentioned on Twitter that he recalls using the Roland SR-JV80-05 World Expansion Board for his game compositions.
For context, I asked Grant Kirkhope what Ensoniq sampler he used for any n64 scores he did.
Grant asked Robin Beanland to help him by remembering the Ensoniq sampler he used and sending a screencap of the sampler itself.
And then replies later he said "That's the right one"
It confirmed Grant that he used this sampler for his earlier works in the n64 era.
"Right now I’m using @SpitfireAudio BBC Symphony Orchestra Pro Version"
The Roland XV3080 can be seen in the studio for Big Huge Games when Grant introduces himself when showcasing the music he worked on for the game KIngdoms of Amalur.

Grant Kirkhope uses the Eastwest Hollywood Brass library, as confirmed by his response on Twitter. When asked if the trumpet in "Capitol Cashino" was a live recording or a software instrument, Kirkhope indicated it was indeed a software instrument from this specific library.
Composer Grant Kirkhope uses the East West Hollywood Woodwinds sample library, as confirmed by his statement: "I don’t use sound fonts.... I use sample libraries like Hollywood strings, brass and woodwind and I just bought the Spitfire Orchestral Library but haven’t used it yet," posted on Twitter by Grant Von Scarehope.
"Of course then Microsoft bought us and they went straight to the Xbox and we could use proper instruments then. So I was using the Vienna Symphonic library which is quite a big orchestral library which is quite expensive to buy, and I used that for Grabbed by the Ghoulies."
Grant Kirkhope guitar amp can be seen in the picture of him interacting with Wolf Van Halen.
