Features and functionality

  • The library includes soloists for nearly every instrument, providing more expressive options than EastWest's Hollywood Orchestra, which lacks soloists.

    Source
  • Recorded wet, the library's inherent reverb can muddy sound, especially in complex textures, but suits epic music where reverb enhances the ambiance.

    Source
  • Gold Edition offers a wide range of instrument tones, from soloists to a seventy-person string ensemble, enhancing versatility for various projects.

    Source

User experience

  • Some owners find the library's size too large, preferring more intimate mic options offered in Platinum for closer sound management.

Critic Reviews

EastWest/Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra

soundonsound.com

The EastWest Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra - Gold Edition is a powerhouse for orchestral scoring, capturing an impressive range of dynamics and timbres. Its vast 24-bit sample library is meticulously recorded in a concert hall, offering surround sound capabilities. The Kompakt player interface is user-friendly, making it easy to adjust mic placements and create lush, cinematic mixes. However, it lacks solo viola, double bass, and certain articulations like harp glissandi and brass trills, which limits some scoring flexibility. Despite these gaps, it's a top-tier choice for film composers seeking Hollywood-worthy orchestral sounds.

Inconsistent price advertising

Every stage of the way with purchasing this item, another heavy layer of cost appeared. Got it on 60% off sale, still a high cost. Started at $426 for Gold + Solo instruments on Mac HD, then as I get to PayPal, over +80$ in tax appears, then after confirming on PayPal regardless, +26$ for delivery appears. Up to over $540!! All of this cost information should be visible from the start. I got the download version instead. Amazing library, but not a good checkout experience.

Download version still has the huge VAT by the way.
