Description
The Space Cadet 12-String Bass by Musicvox
Is a 12-String Bass with Humbuckers.
Specs:
• Scale length: 34″ (long scale)
• Neck-through Body: Mahogany
• Fingerboard: Rosewood.
• Neck: Maple Neck with Dual truss rods to handle the tension from twelve Strings.
• Nut: Early versions had a brass nut (some later may use graphite or similar) , helps with stability under tension.
• First-series 12-String Basses began in 1999, made in Korea.
• Some Versions have bound body/neck/headstock; others (especially early ones) did not.
• Pickups: Musicvox Humbuckers (Special 12-String Bass Humbuckers)
• Electronics: Active/passive design , you can choose active mode (with built-in 3-band EQ) or passive mode.
• Output: Dual outputs , one active, one passive. This allows (for example) splitting the signal to two amps for stereo or different tonal paths.
• Bridge / Tailpiece: Custom-cast, fully adjustable 8-saddle bridge and tailpiece for accurate intonation across all 12 Strings.
• Tuners: Locking tuners (on at least the first series) to improve tuning stability under heavy string tension.
• The 12-string configuration is “4 courses of 3 strings” , essentially like a standard 4-string bass, but each string is tripled (typically with octave strings accompanying each fundamental).
• Because of the extra strings and resulting tension, the dual-truss-rod neck, mahogany body, and locking tuners were chosen for stability and durability.
• The dual-output + active/passive design gives wide tonal flexibility , from mellow, piano-like resonance to full, huge 12-string bass sound (great for stereo rigs or just extra tonal options).
• There are different finish and build variations depending on series. For example, a limited-edition “Seafoam Green” finish was made in 2001 (very rare), besides the more common Sunburst, White etc.
• Some listings describe a bound body/headstock/neck with Block Pearloid (or black pearl) Inlays on the Rosewood Fingerboard.
