A Great Legacy Keyboard Amplifier

The RMI 360-Series Keyboard Amplifier is actually an RMI 360 amplifier head and an RMI G-180 speaker cabinet, and was manufactured by RMI (Rocky Mountain Instruments) starting in 1970 for their line of keyboard products, ...but you need to know what this great amp was used for in the first place....

The "RMI Keyboard Computer II" was basically the first true "digital" sound (not analog) keyboard in existence, used by Rick Wakeman and other keyboard giants in the '70s, and even came with a pack of punch-cards to insert into a slot on the keyboard to program it with the different sounds (waveforms). It featured "true stereo" outputs (left jack tuned to A440, right jack tuned to A442), and ....this keyboard used a "pair" of the RMI 360-Series amplifiers (one amp for each output jack). I had a friend who had this entire set-up in 1980, and I got to experience it. End result was ...The most MASSIVE WALL OF SOUND I have ever heard come from a keyboard "to date". I was so impressed with this amp that I ended-up purchasing a used one (just one of them, not a pair) to run my keyboard rig through in the '80s and I loved it. Very loud and great tonal balance. The RMI 360 amp head had two input channels, each w/ separate high, mid, and low tone controls, an adjustable mid frequency, and a great sounding (large tank) spring reverb system. The G-180 speaker cabinet featured one JBL 15" full-range speaker and two Piezo tweeters.

Now the above all being said, ...this is old transistor technology (1970), but was well designed and built for its time. It delivered a clean, clear sound but would be considered "noisy" (when not playing) by today's standards. These amps are extremely hard to find now but usually sell for $250 when one comes available (they used to sell for $1K new).
