John Panozzo of Styx used Simmons SDS pads, as highlighted in a discussion on the distinctive electronic drum sounds in prog rock and new wave music. The source notes the recognizable drum accents in the break of Styx's "Mr. Roboto" as an example of the SDS pads' influence.
At 2:47 you can see her with some Simmons SDS Pads, fun fact: this was apparently one of the few times she used those pads as she prefers traditional drum kits but she's only used them a total of 4 times, once in this video and 3 times at local shows in Michigan.
