Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Soundcraft Vi1.

Software and compatibility

  • Vi1's software is considered mature, but the delay when changing fader layers can be attributed to Vistonics rendering.

    Source
  • Transitioning show files between Vi models can result in channel bank misalignment, particularly when moving from a Vi6 to a Vi3000.

    Source
  • Updating the iPad app to the latest build significantly improves connectivity, making remote control more reliable.

    Source
  • The iPad app for the Vi series is criticized for lacking development, making remote control less effective compared to other brands with robust app support.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The Vi1’s user inject feed feature allows specific routing for IEMs, though practical implementation details are less discussed.

    Source
  • The Vi1's small footprint is frequently praised by touring engineers who appreciate its portability and sound quality.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • The Vi1 typically supports 32 inputs and outputs, but can be configured to 48x16, worth verifying before a gig.

    Source
  • The Vi1 is limited to 4 FX units, whereas the Vi4 supports 8, influencing effects-heavy mixes.

    Source
  • The Vi1 allows patching any line output to any bus output, offering flexibility in output configuration.

    Source
  • The lack of 96kHz sample rate support is a significant drawback, impacting latency for IEMs and driving users to newer consoles with higher sample rates.

    Source
  • The Vi1's display is difficult to read in daylight, making it unsuitable for outdoor venues without additional shading.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • If a Vi1 fails to boot, re-seating internal ribbon connectors might resolve the issue, though it involves handling potentially dangerous AC voltages.

    Source
  • Stereo linked channels can malfunction, reducing volume to infinity, and changing fader layers can be slow, highlighting potential software sluggishness.

    Source

Build quality

  • Some units have experienced broken LED strips and potis, indicating potential quality control issues in specific models.

    Source
  • Some users experience issues with fader motors and suggest performing fader calibration while unpairing all faders to improve functionality.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Users prefer alternatives like Digico Quantum and A&H dLive due to more advanced software features and higher sample rates, contributing to the decline of the Vi series' popularity.

    Source

User experience

  • Users report the EQ interface as unintuitive, requiring reliance on numerical feedback rather than a tactile or visual approach, which differs from analog and other digital consoles.
