Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Spector Legend Standard 4.

Features and functionality

  • Owners note the neck-dive issue and the battery is housed with the electronics, unlike other active basses with separate compartments.

    Source

User experience

  • The short upper horn and bridge placement make the first fret feel further away compared to other basses like Fender.

    Source
  • It's been noted that the bass is on the heavier side, so investing in a good strap is recommended for comfort.

    Source
  • Previous owners note that even with minor scratches, these are often hidden under the wrist during play and do not impact aesthetics significantly.

    Source

Build quality

  • While generally well-built, the J-pickup has a lower output compared to the P-pickup, though height adjustments can mitigate this.

    Source
  • The smaller-than-average body may require adjustment for comfortable seated playing.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Thorough cleaning and multiple oil treatments are needed for the fretboard, especially if the bass has been unused for extended periods.

    Source
  • Removing old strings and cleaning can reveal a surprisingly dirty fretboard, even if it appears visually clean initially.

Critic Reviews

Spector Legend 4 Standard Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The Spector Legend 4 Standard is a superb entry-level bass that balances quality and affordability. Its fast neck and clean tone make it a joy to play, while the versatile P/J pickup configuration covers a range of musical styles effortlessly. However, minor build inconsistencies, like rough frets and loose tuning pegs, detract from an otherwise stellar instrument. Overall, for just under $550, it’s a strong contender for both beginners and seasoned players looking for a reliable workhorse.

Spector Legend 4 Standard Bass Review – Guitars For Idiots

guitarsforidiots.com

The Spector Legend 4 Standard Bass dazzles with its stunning aesthetics and rich tones, but it’s not without its flaws. While the ash body and upgraded pickups deliver impressive sound quality, issues like a poorly installed tone knob and high action out of the box could deter some players. The build quality shines, but the minor construction errors raise questions about consistency at this price point. Ultimately, it’s a solid choice for those seeking versatility and style, just be prepared to make some tweaks before hitting the stage.

Spector Legend 4 Standard | Bass Gear Magazine

bassgearmag.com

The Spector Legend 4 Standard shines with impressive craftsmanship and a versatile sound that appeals to players of all genres. Its P/J pickup configuration delivers a wide tonal range, making it easy to achieve everything from smooth Motown grooves to edgy rock tones. However, it’s not without flaws; the fret edges could use refinement, and the battery access is cumbersome—requiring screws to be removed. Despite these minor setbacks, the overall playability and tonal capabilities make it a standout choice for those seeking an affordable, high-quality bass.

Quality at a reasonable price

Great product, excellent cost benefit. Its passive microphones and active electronics give it a bright and crisp sound. It is relatively light, easy to carry. Occasionally I work on editing themes and do not require major effects or plug-ins .... Sounds incredible
