Very original vibrato / vibe pedal
This is a rather unusual effects pedal: it's neither really a tremolo, nor a vibrato like the Boss VB-2 or the TC Electronic Shaker. It's actually a reproduction of the vibrato circuit of Magnatone amps, with a very vintage sound. It's not a simple pitch shifting, because it's wavier than other vibrato pedals. There are two modes, one in which the effect is alone and the other in which feedback is added to it, so that it sound more chorusy or a vibey. I mainly use the vibrato for my part. What I like about this pedal is that generally for this type of modulation, the pedals offered are only usable over a very limited range. Basically, you only hear the tremolo and vibrato if the intensity is very strong. As for the speed, it is sometimes too slow and then goes crazy at the very end of the stroke. Here, you can put everything to zero or almost, and also to full volume and in both cases it will sound. Personally, I like to set the intensity quite low, at a third, and the speed just below half. This gives an ambient effect, barely audible and which does not disturb my guitar playing. It adds a kind of ambiance to the Calexico, perfect for playing chords as well as for arpeggios or playing single notes (like the intro to Twin Peaks). The only drawback for me is that the pedal is still a little expensive for the effect it offers, which is still quite discreet. But it really is a great sound that can give your guitar playing a lot of personality.
