Tokai Basses (EMM Dec 82)

muzines.co.uk

The Tokai MBX-45 1982 bass impresses as a faithful emulation of the Fender Jazz Bass, offering solid construction and a robust sound profile. Its flashy metallic red finish, while not for everyone, is eye-catching. The neck is comfortable, though players used to Precision necks might need some adjustment. One downside is the JB45's tone control, which lacks effectiveness, and the aesthetic mismatch with its cheaper-looking scratch-plate and chrome parts. The JB85FL fretless model adds character with better materials and vintage pickups, though its reverse-gear tuners may frustrate some. Overall, both models are well-built and present good value, especially if you enjoy haggling.
