    Source
  • RME's TotalMix software is praised as the best by long-time users, contrasting with UAD's PCIe DSP cards that are limited to UAD software.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • UAD's Unison technology is praised for its ability to emulate classic preamps like the Neve 1073 and API, providing a distinct character in recordings.

    Source
  • The AE-7 sound card reportedly provides lower CPU usage (78-98%) compared to the Z SE (98-120%) in large projects with numerous plugins and tracks.

Critic Reviews

Universal Audio UAD2

soundonsound.com

The UAD Quadcore Card of FX is a significant upgrade over its predecessor, boasting up to 10 times the processing power and offering premium analogue emulation plug-ins. While it's a powerhouse for mixing, enabling features like 'Load Lock' for DSP management and a 'Live Track' mode for reducing latency during overdubs, it strains host CPUs at low latencies. Users with robust systems will benefit most from its potential, although early software issues and the need for a strong computer setup could deter some. Overall, a compelling choice for those seeking high-quality audio processing.

Universal Audio UAD-2 Quad review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The UAD-2 Quad card is a powerhouse for plug-in users, offering ten times the performance of its predecessor, the UAD-1. Its installation and update process is hassle-free and it can run alongside the UAD-1, ensuring compatibility with existing plug-ins. However, it's not yet RTAS-compatible and crossgrading will incur costs in 2009. While no exclusive plug-ins are available yet, the card's performance, particularly with multiple Neve 88RS instances, is impressive. It's a solid investment for UAD devotees, promising a robust future for the platform.

Brilliant and saves on PC CPU POWER

Brilliant piece of kit. I have way to many plugs in UAD to mention. Nearly got them all (well the ones worth having) In my opinion the best sounding VST Plug-ins of them all on their own card. Couldnt live without them :) .....Be warned cards are expensive and so are the add on plug-ins. But the best.
