Founded in 1971 by Francis F. Lee and Chuck Bagnaschi in Waltham, Massachusetts, Lexicon is widely regarded as the godfather of digital reverb. The company traces its roots to American Data Sciences (1969) and became a pioneer in digital audio processing, releasing some of the first commercially available digital delay systems and reverb units. The Lexicon Model 224, introduced in 1979, was among the earliest commercially viable digital reverb systems, and the Lexicon 480L, released in 1986, became the industry-standard reverb processor found in studios worldwide. At its peak, "Lexicon" became shorthand for reverb itself — engineers would say "add some Lexicon" the way people say "Google it."
Lexicon's professional product line spans hardware reverb and effects processors including the PCM series (PCM-60, PCM-70, PCM-80, PCM-90, PCM-92, PCM-96), the 960L surround processor, the MX200 and MX300 multi-effects units, and the LXP and MPX Native plug-in bundles for DAW integration. The company also produces installation and integration products like the QLI-32 and BOB-32. Beyond pro audio, Lexicon has a legacy in consumer home theater processors and amplifiers. Lexicon has been a subsidiary of Harman International since 1993, operating under the broader Harman Professional Solutions umbrella.
Lexicon has 69 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Effects Processors, Audio Interfaces, and Reverb Plugins.
