Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Yamaha PSR-175.

Features and functionality

  • The Yamaha PSR-175 lacks velocity-sensitive keys, meaning all notes play at the same volume unless manually adjusted in software like FL Studio.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • To use the PSR-175 as a MIDI controller, a MIDI to USB cable is required, and FL Studio will recognize it under generic controller settings.

    Source
  • Some newer versions of M-Audio Uno MIDI interfaces have reported issues, particularly with Windows 11, leading owners to switch to a Roland UM-ONE.

    Source
  • Official drivers from M-Audio are recommended for the older MIDI interface to optimize performance and reduce issues.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Users report the need to switch the keyboard to "Style mode" for MIDI input recognition, which can be essential for initial setup.

    Source
  • Ensure the MIDI interface connections are correct: MIDI OUT from the keyboard should connect to MIDI IN on the interface, and vice versa.

    Source

User experience

  • Some owners mention intermittent connectivity issues when using the PSR-175 as a MIDI controller, suggesting it can be sensitive or inconsistent in detecting signals.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The keyboard can be used to play its own MIDI-triggered sounds by routing MIDI into the keyboard, offering additional creative recording options.

    Source

Comparisons

  • CME's U2MIDI interface is noted for being reliable and is about $15 cheaper than other options like Roland UM-ONE and iConnectivity mio.

DJ!

Things pretty shit, feels plasticky and cheap but it’s got some funny DJ sounds to make up for it. Also has MIDI in and out so I guess it’s handy for that.

Pretty decent keyboard.

It may not have weighted keys, but its still useful as a MIDI keyboard as well as one just for fun (I love playing with the DJ setting!)

Well built. Exceptional instrument menu.

My first synthesizer. Absolutely love it. Still use it occasionally. Well-built and sturdy.
